Signs of spring in February?

Post by Sugarflower »

I've noticed some peculiar things recently. Yesterday I spotted a robin in the yard around our apartment. Robins never show up in this area until mid to late March so I was shocked to see one here in mid winter. This morning I was awaken by a thunderstorm passing by. Storms like this never arrive here until late March or early April. It was a bit soothing to hear the thunder when I went back to bed. I've also seen many dandelions blooming and producing seeds lately since the weather has been so mild this past month. Has anyone else noticed spring-like phenomenon?

Actually . . . its really cold here in Pheonix, AZ. :D As I'm sure some of you guys saw yesterday, it's been kind of cloudy off and on for the past month or so. It's raining right now, too.

But, we don't really get a lot of rain in the spring. We don't get much rain period. :P We're supposed to have a monsoon season, but I haven't really seen it in years.

Have you told many people that your Carolina Jasmine is bursting into bloom?

it's "wintery" here. it's raining a lot.
It's cool enough for me to wear a sweater, pants and socks (and real shoes).

Yesterday and today it reached 75 degrees in OK. Amazingly warm for this time of year. The temperature is expected to drop 50 degrees by tomorrow night and snow - with possible thunderstorms, rain and maybe a tornado before the snow hits. Very weird weather!

It was beautiful in Cephiro over the weekend. Robins have been everywhere for about a week, and I saw two humongous flocks of snow geese starting to edge north already.

Then Monday I returned to Arl and found remains of ice and snow all over with great gray bergs in the corners of all the mall parking lots. But considering that we often have huge blizzards at this time of year, I'm not complaining.

I've told my wife to keep an ear cocked for peepers down in Cephiro, as they seem to know when frigid weather really is gone for good. I once heard them awaken in VA one warm February, and everyone shook their heads and said they'd freeze their little frog eggs and tadpoles. But they were right. By May 1 there was nary a spring flower left unfaded.

Where I live, we are getting 10" of snow right now.
This has been the coldest, snowiest winter I can
remember in a long long time. No signs of spring
in Iowa. X|

Right now, though, I am in GA, and it was 75 here
today. 8)
