Woman, unmarried! Probably going to stay that way for a while, too--I'm rather shy, and thus don't have too many prospects. But I'm happy, and that's all that counts, right? :)

Yep, no prospects despite my coworker's attempts to set me up with an art history grad student he knows. :emb Though, the fault of that is the grad student's shyness rather than my own.

Male and single/un-married.

Having a girlfriend just isn't worth the effort (I am basing this soley on the women in my town - they are too shallow.)

:hitting: Awesome!

You fall into the married catagory. If you're in the US, depending on which state, you've been married for years without having to do anything. Is it Rhode Island that claims 30 days of "living in sin" is considered "legally" married? I forget. Most I think are a couple years though.

I only know this because 2 friends of mine were going to make it official by going to the courthouse after living together for 12 years and having a kid together. The judge told them they'd been legally married for 9 years but he'd give them the proper paperwork anyway.

This is called a "common-law marriage" and for states that recognize this it's usually 7 or 14 years of co-habitating. BTW, California no longer recognizes common-law marriages unless the couple comes from a state that recognizes it.

Single gal here! :D I have a long-distance boyfriend I've been dating for about seven months.

And many states don't recognize common-law marriages anymore. Louisiana doesn't.

I'm a single guy... I enjoy Working, I think that my job is a challenge and it always gives me new goals to achieve and people to talk to. I don't think of my job as working... I enjoy it too much for it to be work.

I enjoy listening and talking with everyone. It gives me inspirations and a look into their lives from their perspective and helps me understand how they feel and live. It helps me understand more about myself.

I also enjoy writing in my spare time... I'm not very good, but I try my best. Right now I'm working on a story about a boy that was in a fatal accident. His mother saved him by transplanting her heart. It was the ultimate sacrifice and his mother died, but the story takes another turn, when his little sister is stung by a parasitic wasp. The doctors did everything they could and removed the parasites, but the tissue damage to her heart and 30% of her body gives her only a few days to live. When everything is said and done, the brother saved his sisters life the same way that his mother saved his. And thus the main character changes from the brother to the little sister. A little sister who has her mother's heart, her brother's eyes, and both of their love... So, the heart of the story begins with the little girls journey into her feelings, emotions, and everything that goes through her life. She overcomes extreme hardships, tests, and challenges by her uplifting never ending loving attitude towards life. I'm still writing and I don't know if I'll ever finish.

I enjoy being with friends and family. Just being around people I love gives me the motivation to be the best that I can be. Because they need me and I need them.

I'm a collector... I collect everything. When I like something, I try my best to buy it unless I don't have enough money. Then I have to work harder so I can buy it.

Something new I'm trying is growing orchids... They are beautiful flowers that I love to care for and watch as they grow.

I enjoy many hobbies... I like to try everything at least once. Maybe one day I'll even try sky diving. But somethings I don't like. For example, I don't like Celery... Image

I believe that a relationship is one based on trust, devotion, and undying love. A love that endures all hardships and can never be broken.

I hope that one day soon, I will find that special girl, the one just for me; and give her my heart, my faith, and my love; for all eternity.

A few years ago I asked my college English Literature professor about how to make the main characters of my short stories more convincing and life-like.

He told me to become that character and see how the world through their eyes. When you become the character, you understand what they are thinking, feeling, and what they would do in different situations.

Now that's just great for guy characters... I really have no problems what so ever with that, but "becoming" the character doesn't work at all with female characters.

I personally think that movies, novels, and stories of all kinds are only as good as the characters portrayed by the author.

And that's why I created Robo-Flonne in order to help me understand the main character of the novel I'm writing. I don't know what I will do with the novel.... I've changed it so much since I started. But I really like it.

Fair play, don't know whether he literally meant to pretend you're female on an online forum and unless you're writing a book on a girl who browses internet forums, I don't really see how it could help. I don't suppose it affects your real life at all?

Oh well, each to their own I guess...whatever works for you... :nuts

Actually when I asked my professor about female characters, he basically told me that I was somewhere between a rock and a hard spot. And it would be much more difficult than male characters. He only guided me and never "told" me what I should do.

Just from the pictures I've seen, Dressing up as a Faye Valentine sure doesn't work... My mental eyes are burning just by thinking of Man-faye. Image

I actually got this idea from all the women writers that wrote under macho guy names because at the time, it was completely unaccepted for girls to write or even be educated... Image Women were supposed to stay home and "in their place" as mothers and take care of the children. I've seen too many writers who could write and take care of children just fine.

They hid the fact that they were women, and everyone loved their books... , but that was only because they thought they were men. If men knew that those were women writers they would be shunned and discriminated. Those women had the strength to write even when it was unacceptable, and that somehow inspired me.
Ronin wrote:Fair play, don't know whether he literally meant to pretend you're female on an online forum and unless you're writing a book on a girl who browses internet forums, I don't really see how it could help.
Really I didn't think it would help as much as it did. You know Ronin, I think you've watched Disgaea so you might know a little about Flonne. But Flonne is an Otaku/angel Trainee/who's crazy about love. And in the anime, the other characters think she has flowers growing in her head.

But what I now realize is that the "important thing" isn't really about becoming Flonne. The important part is that by becoming Flonne you forced yourself to ask over and over:
"What would Flonne do ?"
"What does Flonne feel?"
"What would Flonne say?"
"How would Flonne react in fun times and in hard times...?" Image

And after a while those questions don't even have to be asked anymore, it becomes more of an unconscious automatic process. And now, I think I know Flonne better then any character I've ever met.

I really believe that this has somehow helped me to have a better understanding of how women are affected and what they feel, what they need, and what I should do to help them.

One thing that I knew nothing about and really amazes me is the 24-hour invisible support network Image that women can rely on.
The best way to describe is an "OnStar for the soul".
No matter what day it is, or even if the sky is falling, you can count on a flood of support and caring words from your female friends. The reason I say it's invisible, because it's not for show... They really care about you and send you letters that no one else can see.

I've only received one support letter from a guy.
The normal type of letters that guys usually write includes, "show them who's boss" Image to "suck it up like a man."
