EBay cutting listing fees, boosting commissions

I have not sold anything on e-bay yet, but was planning on starting soon. (got to support the cel habit

) Now, it seems like it would be a waste of time, because with the new fees, I don't think I would really make a profit. *sigh*

And paypal sucks! Even as a buyer, I have trouble with them! They flag certain non-ebay transactions as possible fraud, and do not let me use a credit card. And theres nothing wrong with my cards! I've actually been on the phone with multiple supervisors about this within the last few weeks, and no one can give a straight answer of why. There is no real criteria, and once the computer flags it, they cannot unflag it! It's insane! Has anyone else ever had this problem? Just curious

I didn't know E-bay and YJ were merging. EEEKK!

I did. It took me just over a month to settle everything with PayPal. It was settled quite favorably in my favor.

I have nice things to say about them now.

I am glad you were able to resolve your situation with them. I wish I could get some concrete answers from someone there. Talking to the supervisors certainly didn't help. Maybe I should write to them.

I've never sold anything on ebay, so I would probably fall into the "hold your funds" category.
All that means to me, is that I will never be selling on ebay. I'm looking forward to finding out what will take it's place.

All I'm going to say is Marie and I had a consignment business on an ebay storefront and we got bent over a barrel and raped. We almost lost our house because of what happened. So this newest development doesn't surprise me but I've boycotted ebay and paypal a long time ago.

i like the idea of lower insertion fees because it literally cut into my shipping and handling charges, including revenue. i did sell something before these notifications but i don't use it much. i am peeved about the new feedback and rating policies and the commission fees...it's ridiculous.

i am considering moving my business elsewhere.

I've been looking at the some of the links shown at Powersellers Unite (the page that keeps track of how many auctions are up on Ebay right now). Because eCrater is free, I've been looking into it

The new rules on feedback messes up my ability to ship overseas... among other things. our feedback can be crushed easily, by scammers now.

This isn't me but I'm quoting from the link.

This canadian seller complains about her inability to maintain powerseller status because shipping time to the USA is going to be slower from Canada to the USA. so her 4.6 shipping time will cause her to lose her powerseller status. And she's mad because she ships out of country, and scammers can target Canadians easily and get away now.

here's what the canadian seller said.

The feedback change is an open door to scamers.
There is NOTHING stopping a buyer from ordering stuff all day from sellers not in there country because they know there will be no tracking.

And then getting the item and emailing the seller and saying ( real nicely by the way )
Sorry mate the item is not here yet what should be do? ( a day later)
still nothing how long should it take? ( 5 days later)
sorry mate i hate to do it but its still not here, im going to have to leave a neg feedback if i do not get a refund. I hate to do it but i have no choice. ........
They can do that all day long and get refunds and free product . Why? ..... because the buyer was nice and the seller is thinking well i better do it because he will neg if i make him open a paypal claim and i cant neg him back for thinking he is scammin me.

paypal was no log of how many times the seller dosnt get an item and no neg feedback so ebay dosnt know how many times.
I have 6800 feedbacks in the last year and a bit. 99.3% pos. And i can NEVER get my shipping time star up to a 4.6 because i am in Canada and shipping to the USA takes more time then buyers like to wait. So i will no longer be a power seller.
So what is my 5000.00 a month in paypal and ebay fees getting me? The worst part is what else can i do?
there is no way to make the money i make on ebay anywhere else.
So ill just go to the drug store and get some a#@$ lube so it wont hurt as much when ebay f***s me in the @%%. I just wish they would buy me dinner first.

At the start of the boycott there were 16.4 million listings on ebay so they are off over a 4 mil drop.
This morning they had a jump of 500k up and a lot on the ebay boards think was caused by ebay adding items to their "test account" Id's that ebay has to make the numbers look a little better. More important than the listing numbers is whats happening to Ebay's stock price for thats is whats if anything will force them to abandon their latest moves.

When ebay looks at the big picture, they will see no change at all. Why? Becuase they did the cheap listing fee a week before strike took place.

Check feb. 11th and you can see that the auction count was in the 12kish range. It shot up because of everyone listing because of the cheap fees during that time period. Keep in mind those auctions lasted anywhere from 3-10 days so some of those are still just sitting on ebay's sytem. Now you take a look at yesterday and it is back where it was on the 12th.

So ebay can not just brush off this entire strike and say that it didnt effect anything because the amount of live auctions is down because of the number of listings that are ending from their cheap listing fee day that they offered. Thus the strike being ineffective.
