Where are all the primo Dragonball Cels?

Post by Strictly-Dragonball »

Although this has been the situation for a couple of years now, don't you think it's becoming more apparent that there is a distinct lack of high quality DBZ cels available? They are just nowhere to be found as of late. The ones that do show up are doing the rounds on YJ and are stapled with a price tag that would have been steep at the shows peek.

Why do you think this is? Also have you noticed that Animegame which used to be the place to be for DB cels is going through a period of having very un-frequent updates?

Thanks for the thoughts.

The high end owners are not willing to take a big loss on them since the ones that are out there are not selling.

Keep it and hope for another DBZ rebound

Mainly because as time passes (generally) individuals move towards quality vs. quantity. As this happens individuals will become more and more picky in obtaining cels from the series and focus all there $$ on high end cels. Now imagine thousands+ keeping with this mentality. What will occur is all the high end cels will be removed and only the low end cels will remain. Consider it another form of natural selection.

There is hope however, as time passes its possible some of these collectors get bored with collecting, need money, or for some other reason decide to sell. If anyone has been following the City Hunter cel market they know what I mean. Since last May 07' there was been a flow of high end cels from the series that in previous years was nonexistent. So all in all, patience will pay off.

Yeah :) I get what you are saying EOP, basically nobody wants to settle for mediocre shots anymore and those that already have high quality cels either already have them in their permanent collection or they won't sell at all until the price is perfect. Which in most cases (especially if it's a novice DB collector) the price is extremely high so the market isn't changing. Id imagine that there is hardly any cels left at the source in Japan (in stores and with dealer's) because all the cels have already made their way into collector's hands years ago. Do you think there are many cels left in Japan anymore from older shows like this?

Also, because so many people collect it that makes the situation even worse :(

I definately agree with what everyone is saying. The price of the medium to low end cels has dropped significantly since the DBZ craze has slowed down, but core collectors will still pay decent money for high end cels.

You can still get some some high end stuff from collectors but be prepared to pay bigtime. Some are so over priced its crazy and it really frustrating to know that someone purchased something for like $1750 and are selling it for $3000. Good luck to them I guess.

As a result of lack of $ and a change in priority, I keep an eye out for interesting or rare DBZ gengas a dougas. I still appreciate them as much as cels, if not more so due to them being relatively inexpensive. They may not be everyones cup of tea, but I still love them, especially if they are from favourite episodes. Heres an example of a recent purchase...

Apart from that there some really cool DBZ toys starting to pop up from Japan.

Don't get me wrong, I love my DBZ cels, but being DBZ mad, I have had to change my DBZ collecting to match the market.

as minigt said, true collector will still pay the right price for a high end DB cel.

look at my last acquisition, the hugg or the SSJ 2 Gohan, sure I paid less than I would have paid 3 years ago but it is still over than 2k each.... To be honest I won't sell those cels even for that price. Someone offered me 1k more for the hugg only because the cel was on my hand and knew that he will not take any risk buying the cel. I took a huge risk when I bought this cel as few people had issue with the seller.

This is why over the years people start collecting only high cel as the price as no HUGE impact because of the market. Beleive me, a Majin vegeta remains a Majin, no matter what. A SSJ 2 Vegeta powering up or a SSJ 2 Gohan will not be 100 USD...

:D Absolutely incredible, I'm so pleased you got the Majin Vegeta and Trunks cel Akadro, I know how much you will appreciate it. Such a beautiful shot, well deserved my friend. And to obtain Angela's SS2 Gohan too... priceless!

Well, at least Dragonball has 500+ episodes, which is I think more than any other series. Ever. Should improve your odds in the long run ;-)

And yes, primo cels tend to come in spurts *daydreams about 2002 and 2004* just gotta be patient.

Wow so glad to hear that, thank you very much for your kind comment. I will do my best to keep that collection forever and improve it but I am sure one day, I guess, 80% of my collection will be for sale. Maybe not, maybe I can hold my entire collection and sell my "small" cels and keep all the best,

As KT said, GK is selling some good ones and everyday someone is selling something so, I am sure the best cel will still be available.

BWA still have some beauties all year long....

so let's say there is no hope....but STUFF around, just need some deep search and be patient,
