What's your favorite piece of artwork?

Post by lcatino »

Hi everyone!

I was just going through my collection of artwork, and was thinking about this one sketch that I absolutley love. I am curious to know what everyone's most prized posession of anime artwork is. Cel, Sketch, Fan Art... What is the one piece that you treasure among everything else, and why?

I'm sure this has been already been discussed, but since I'm the "newbie", humor me! :D

OK, I guess I'll start: :emb

This is a sketch from the fifth Naruto OP of Naruto and Sasuke. I love the way they are looking at each other. The emotion really shows the rivalry and friendship that make they're relationship so interesting. I won this off e-bay!

It's very hard for me to pick just one. But this is definitely one of my absolute favorites.

This is a really perfect moment in a great episode. The two care enough about Tohru to forgo the family's mandatory festivities and spend New Years with her. They even stop fighting long enough to worry about her and rush home right away. Even though she denies the fact that she really needed them that night, they are relieved when they get in the door and realize that they did the right thing by coming home. And then they collapse. While laying on the floor they tell her that they want more of her home cooking and to watch the sunrise with her.

It is such a tender and warm moment, in a show that has it's share of comedy and drama.

These are all such beautiful pieces of artwork. Thanks for sharing! :D

I love the emotion in the FB sketch. And the DB cel is a great action shot!

Xelloss - I don't think I could pick one either. You have a sweet collection!

The Phibrizzo cel is gorgeous! :) I never thought being buried with my cels. My husband may be a little jealous that I would want to spend my afterlife with Sasuke!

If I were forced to get rid of everything but one piece, this would be that one: http://stemcels.rubberslug.com/gallery/ ... emID=98465

It is also the only piece that I've seriously considered paying hundreds of dollars to get professionally cleaned and framed.

OK, since you said favorite ANIME artwork, I cannot show you all my "soon-to-arrive" Disney cel, which is probably one of the most amazing cels I have ever seen in my life.

So, after thinking long and hard, the one Anime artwork that is my absolute favorite would have to be my Transformer Sixshot Hanken painting.

http://starphoenix.rubberslug.com/galle ... mID=191854

So, here are my reasons on choosing this one over anything else.
1). The Hanken is over 20 years old. It is also my priciest Anime piece that I have in my collection.
2). The character itself is one of the very first 6 changer robots that was made not only in the film, but also the toy-line that came out in 1986 right after the US series retired. It was also only made in Japan and certain parts in Europe. So, the toy never reached the US. He is also considered one of the classic Japanese robots (apart from the ones you see in the US).
3). This hanken was made for the box design of the toy, which are generally the best quality pictures of those characters, and they made him with a "3D appearance". I have not seen too many other ones that compared to this.
4). The details and color in this artwork is probably THE BEST I have ever seen when compared to all my Disney and Anime arts. I had to scan the item 3 times and photoshop the picture together just to even fit it because of its size. And even with spending an extra $250 for my new scanner, I still could not get the vibrant colors as accurate and nice as the actual painting.
5). And lastly, he is just so **** cool with his giant guns and his "I am gonna kill you" pose! :-)

This Rescue Ichigo will definitely be my #1 till either a Majin Vegeta
or another Rescue Ichigo comes along. Why must I have
such expensive tastes?

Ah, Miss Z, you have a nice collection of Miyuki-chan cels. I have been looking around for some, and can't seem to find any. The characters are quite interesting.

Jeanie, that's a beautiful Hanken. I am still looking forward to the Disney update! And you already know how much I love you're naruto section!

Gonzai, you have the best Hikaru No Go section ever. And I love your IY cels. Glad you decided to part with the beautiful Sessy I was able to snag from your ebay auction :iluvu

Mat, those are both gorgeous! Hurry up and scan some more of the Ichigo set! Lol!

:joke

It is waaaaaay too hard to pick just one piece. If I were forced, it would probably be the one-of-a-kind pieces. Probably my Viper Lingerie hanken...

However, since it's too hard to decide...Here's a pic from each category on my site:

Cel I would keep:

I've heard at least 4 people on this board mention being buried with one or two of their favorite pieces of artwork. I sincerely hope this is a joke (you never really know, people could be absolutely serious when they say it).

I personally hope that that never happens because the dead person can't enjoy it, and no one else ever will.

But yeah, it's not uncommon for someone to say that here.

I honestly have mixed feelings about my favorite cel at this point in collecting. Plus, alot of my current cels that I've bought are all wishlists.

But, my Seto Kaiba cel takes the cake for being my fav:

I spent so many years trying to find a cel of him (considering Yugioh cels are so rare), so that is probably my favorite cel of all time.
