I would like to know about this option as well.. My BF was telling me I should put my cels in a lockbox if we have to end up getting an APT when we get married... I am iffy about putting my cels somewhere that I can not visit everyday. I am sure I could.. but i am sure I would creep bank people out. LOLMs. Poe wrote: While I'm on the cel safety subject...Does anyone know of a company in the US who specialize in art protection? Like a bank for artwork? I've always thought about getting a lock box at a bank for my cels, but none are near big enough for my hankens...

That was very nice of him.Kero wrote:Rick at Anime Link said that he would give an informal estimate on my toasted cels. Since it's not for insurance, but for my in-laws, I think this will work out. Hooray for Anime Link!

If anyone else has further information regarding collection insurance, please post - I'm very curious!
I have conquered youtube - maybe.
I think this is the link to the video called "upstairs burned out" I tried to post:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dka3R3CH_Pc
To our knowledge, the workmen who were doing our floors moved our cels from my bedroom to the BATHROOM!! If you watch the video, the bathroom is viewed from the outside right at the beginning (it was to the left as you go up the stairs), and then I went into the bathroom at around 2 minutes. I believe the box of cels was right in front of the sink based on the burn patterns. Some of the rags that started the fire melted into the outside of one cel book (given to the fire investigator). Looking at the video of the bathroom, it really is astonishing that I have any cels or parts of cels at all!

HOLY COW!!!
its amazing you have a HOUSE let alone cels!
(and yes it is a miracle that they werent incinerated! and they were in where the fire started?).
wow!
edit... wow thats really wierd. why did the guy move your cels from the bedroom to your bathroom (you said basically in front of where the fire started?).
did the guy ever give any explanation to why he did that?

Yes, it is amazing that we have a house and cels left. There is about $65k in damage (covered by insurance) to the house, but the structure is fine. We were told that if another 15 minutes had gone by before it was discovered, we would have lost the entire house. When I think of all the books (a major research collection of Anya's - she's a scholar) that were nearly incinerated, it makes me cringe. They are fine, because they weren't on that floor.
As to why he moved the cels... When the carpet was pulled off upstairs, we found we had a gorgeous wood floor. It needed to be stained and sanded. My in-laws found a contractor that could do it right away and so we didn't get over there before the contractor started - thus our stuff that was upstairs was moved. Most was moved downstairs, but he stuck a few boxes into the bathroom. In fact, the junk that we didn't really care about was saved, but the one box in the entire house that I really cared about was on ground zero. My guess, based on the evidence, is that the rags were on or next to the box of cels, then caught the box on fire, which caught the cels/sketches, etc. on fire, which set the cabinet and door on fire, etc.

The firemen pulled down the ceiling (and insulation) in an attempt to stop the fire from spreading and/or reigniting once it was out. I don’t know how much damage was done in the bathroom by the fire rather than by the firemen. However, as I went through the upstairs, I took ceiling shots – you can see where they poked holes in the otherwise undamaged ceilings so they could shoot water and chemicals across the attic crawlspace. We had very little water damage inside – most of it was apparently put out by chemicals. What got wet was the enormous amounts of stuff they threw out the window (cels, burnt towels, linens, insulation, drywall, etc.).klet wrote:Out of curiosity, what's that gunk in the sink, toilet, bathtub, etc?
Hi, I'm back. I am finally settled (living amongst boxes!) in my new super chibi apartment. The house rebuilding is coming along slowly, and somehow is just a comedy of errors and misfortune. For example, the books got off lightly with just smoke damage, but then the basement (where they were ozoned) was flooded when they power washed the outside of the house. Ug! Most of the surviving belongings in the house have been removed to the garage where the DVDs, CDs, tapes, books, etc. are all baking in this very hot September.
I posted a few Ceres cels today. Hopefully I can keep up the pace of a few each night. I only have 602 more files to wade through (according to right clicking and choosing properties), so maybe only 200 cels left to post. That is not counting the ones that I haven't gotten to that are lost without a trace. I know I am missing a Sailor Moon book, an Inuyasha book, some Utena, all my Ranma and Tenchi, and all my Escaflowne that was in a book. Well, wish me luck!!

good luck! i hope it wont be too long before they can get your house totally rebuilt.

Well, I already have 175 posted, if I count those numbers on rubberslug correctly, subtracting for misc damage. I think most of the expensive cels are up. Now I mostly have those cheap cute ones that I can't seem to say no to.Belldandy16 wrote: WOW! i didnt know you had such a big collection! (not to mention loss!)
