New Movie - Kiki's Delivery Service?! Live action!?

Post by MGarza145 »

So Sugarflower and I were chatting on AIM the other night and she mentioned how much she wanted to see Disney's upcoming movie, The Princess and the Frog. She provided me with a link and so I read a few descriptions on upcoming movies, Hannah Montana, Toy Story 3, and such. Then I noticed an english live action version of Kiki's Delivery Service?!! The only info I know is that Jeff Stockwell (Bridge to Terabithia) is making a screenplay.

More info here:

Apparently, there's also a live action Dragonball that premiers in 2009. No Krillin supposedly.

Yeah. I was surprised to see the live action Kiki movie is planned. I'm not sure if it's a good thing though. :? Kiki was the first Miyazaki movie I ever watched and fell in love with. I hope it turns out good though. Wonder who they will cast as Kiki?

I think it may be good to think of this as something completely different than waht Miyazaki did even thought I will still compare then when they really shouldn't be. Miyazaki's film was based on the books just as this movie will be.. or so it seems. so they may do a different take on it? I named my cat Jiji because of the Miyazaki's film.

Well apparently there are several anime live-action movies schedule for release in the next several years. I guess Hollywood is bored with horrible remakes of American movies/tv shows so now they're going to branch out and ruin some Japanese media as well. The list that I've seen includes Ghost in the shell, Dragonball Z, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, just to name a few. I can't seem to find the link that had info on these upcoming projects but most are at least a year off, although they mentioned that Keanu Reeves has already agreed to play Spike. You can find info on the DBZ movie (with Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi?!) and some of the others on IGN's website, although my friend says it may end up being dropped. If I locate that link about the others I will post it.

Now I'm not saying that any, or all of these movies are going to be bad but I find it hard to believe that they are going to be anywhere as good as the originals considering that these are all anime classics. And how many live action movies ever live up to their animated counter-parts, even without the huge cultural and generational gaps these adaptations are going to try and bridge.

Why now? What are you saying?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Well the live action Kiki might not be bad...I heard the author of the book despised Miyazaki's adaptation so maybe this will be more true to the book? :?

Actually the GITS movie will probably be one of the better adaptations, or maybe I should say the more commercially successful one. Its supposed to be directed by Steven Speilberg, and its going to be a mix of live action and 3D animation. I guess when you think about it, movies have so much animation in them any, just reference Speed Racer which was just actors in front of a blue screen. I'm sure it'll be a decent summer flick cause hey, its got Speilberg, but I'm not expecting the same naked invisible cyborg action thriller masterpiece that was GITS.

I wonder who would be Kusanagi? He's been using Tom Cruise, but Kusanagi isn't a guy... Image

I liked Minority report and War of the Worlds... I can't wait to watch...
