This round I’ll start off with voting for a character who has no chance of winning, simply because most people on this board will likely never have read this manga…because it is so verrry old….

In fact, I’m a little chagrined

to say he didn’t even cross my mind when I was thinking of whom to nominate, as I was just thinking of modern manga.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a great character!

Saddled with a hideous fate

not of his own making,

and which makes him the ultimate outsider,

our hero determinedly goes about reclaiming the sold-off parts of his body.

All the while losing to the violence and ugliness of his task,

parts of his soul…

Anyone wondering why Osamu Tezuka is considered a genius need look no further
than this stylishly drawn,

action and pathos filled work.

Sorry! I'm not updating tonight.

I'll try to do that tomorrow. I'm just here to promote a little because all characters with no votes will automatically be out. Characters with only 1 vote are in jeopardy of being out.

So he may the "other guy" but he deserves love too. Afterall, he's known Riiko almost her entire life. And he's been in love with her that entire time too.

You are correct! Thank you for telling me about my typo. I copy and paste a lot so I've probably carried that typo on for a while now.

That's one of the reasons why everyone's allowed to promote their characters. It's more so other people can get to know them than anything else.

So I'll promote another character just because.

He's a top notch coordinator making the rank of an elite pilot signified by Zaft's rare red uniform.

He loves to work with his hands and make mechanical friends for his close friends to play with when he's not around.

But most of all, he's such a great guy. He has a strong sense of justice and a very loyal heart. Won't you vote for Athrun Zala from Gundam Seed?

I want to promote some characters

You know you just love Kenshin

and not to mention Sai's "charm"

and Kakashi who is such a great Team leader

and Shin who is a Bishie and you know you can't resist his smile

and L who is really smart and you love that about him

Zero who you can't withstand just look at this hot bishie

and you have to agree that Kyo even so he is evil and slayed so many men that he is still a awesome guy and not to mention his personality come on come he has a good side and bad but you gotta love him

and Yashamaru who fights for his clan (and the woman he loves) and shows a great sweet side and not to mention he has a great fighting style with strings

You know you love these guys! ^_^

Now BLEACH is the kind of manga where you can be asked to pick five favorite characters and still feel you need more!

Even though I didn’t nominate him, I did have the honor of seconding him…

And there is just something about him…

NO NO!

It’s because, like Churchill’s famous observation about Russia,
he is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

I’m always intrigued by characters where there is a disconnect between how others perceive them and their actions…and what those actions really are. It usually indicates something more is going on. And seldom has this gap been wider
than with Ichimaru Gin!

Starting with his infamous first meeting with Ichigo.
It’s hard to overlook that fact that rather than fight him, he lets Ichigo go

(and catches hell for it from his colleagues).

Then the scene where he taunts Rukia on the way to her execution.
He actually tells her that Renji is still alive(similarly to when Renji let her know that Ichigo lived).

And, although she sees it as destroying her resolve and acceptance of her death, he restores her desire to live.

He doesn’t aid Aizen in his showdown at the execution grounds, claiming to be held captive by Rangiku. An obvious lie, as he effortlessly breaks from her grasp when it’s time to leave Soul Society…
leading to one of the most heartbreakingly romantic scenes
in all manga!

What has he been up to in Hueco Mundo, I wonder…

There is more to this man than meets the “squinted” eye! And I want to know!!!

Also, may I ask a question? Are there any rules about supporting the characters? I've noticed that a few people are advertising them using screenshots from the anime, and anime-based product images (the kind you find on cards and shitajiki). Considering that we've taken the trouble of specifically stating "manga" character, shouldn't the only supporting images come from the manga? I mean, they're just as easy to find online as screenshots and other pics . . .

Just my two cents. Take it or leave it--I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade.

. . . and yea, I will stop the cliched talk now.
