I'd report the guy to the police about the threat he made -- I don't believe there's a 'time limit' on when you can do that -- at least it's noted on record that he's made a verbal threat regarding you -- I think the police will take that a bit more seriously, too.

Good Luck!
samiamew has a really good points, Dee!
i mean, you have to think of yourself and your little boy first. this freak lives right next to you and you never know these days with people. if he's verbally even hinted threatening you and your family. id take it really seriously.

man people are awful. im so sorry, Dee! :(

Hey all

Thanks for letting me know all your input on this.

We talked to the cops tonight and they told us there is not reason we shouldnt have a dog. But they dont know if they can do anything about the camera because the camera is inside his house pointing outside. So they will have to look into it. They said they would call us back either tomorrow or sometime this week to let us know if they can do anything about the camera.

As for the threats they told us if he does it again to call them so they know.

Wow, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. :O

I've heard stories about nasty neighbors poisoning loved pets, and it just makes me sick. You should be able to have a dog if you want one!

Definitely report anything that happens to the police right away. It's important to get things on file. The guy sounds like a psycho, so I also would remove the doggie door, and keep a close eye on any new pets while they would be outside. It's just so not fair that you even should have to do that in my opinion. I don't know anything about dog poisons, but if he has a camera that points outside, why can't you? Maybe if he's up to something, it would show on your video. I'm sure this is easier said than done, and I don't know what your home/yard set up is like, but it's just a thought. ^^

I hope the guy leaves you alone.

Hmm I didnt think about that!!

I wonder if I would get introuble if I were to put a camera in my backyard window and tape him messing with my dog if I get one. At least then id have proof to show the cops.

An i'll make sure im right there so nothing happens to my dog

Do I would get introuble if I were to put a camera in my backyard window and tape him messing with my dog if I get one? Not that I know of. Interesting deduction. How much would you pay for it?

I think cameras are perfectly legal - as long as it's in your yard. I don't think you can point it directly at his yard, but I would guess right on the line to see if he steps into your yard, or throws anything into your part....things like that. I believe a lot of home security companies now offer camera service to non commercial residents as it is becoming more popular. ( A guy here in Mass had cameras professionally installed all over his yard to see who was stabbing his massive inflatable snowman every x-mas season. They actually caught the guy too. :? ) You could probably get some info through a security company regarding the legal issues, and set it up yourself. It would be added protection, and if you actually catch the guy doing something to harm your dog, you have a legal case against him. ^^

You know, if you really wanted a camera watching your back yard, they make wireless cameras that can connect directly to your wireless computer network. They even make some that have pretty decent nighttime vision as well.

Another option would be to use a good web camera ;) The nice part about these options is... the feed can be sent directly to your computer, so you could expose the jerk on YouTube as well as sending a copy to the police. :P :D

Hire a Private Investigator and have this guy checked out. Get a file on him. He might have a few skeletons in his closet that he doesn't want exposed. I also recommend purchasing and learning to shoot a gun. While many people freak out at such a notion, there is nothing safer than a well-trained gun owner. Just my two cents.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

Well if he can harm a dog (which did nothing to him) what can he do to you???? You should be afraid...We learn in Criminal Justice Class that violent people start messing with animals (hurting, stabbing poisoning) and then move up to humans....
What I WOULD do is buy 3 fake cameras and one real one....trick the S.O.B.
Have the 3 fake cameras in PLAIN View all over the place so he can see them and then he won't try anything....the fourth camara should point at the part where he could poison your dog.....

Now what you should know about DOG Poison....
The deadliest FOODS to dogs are: Onions, CHOCOLATE, Raisins and grapes.... not sure about Peaches.....

I'm not sure of how the layout of your house is....But is there any way to block him from seeing your yard? Maybe putting something up? Like a solid fence? Or just wood? If the fence is 6 feet, is it a Grey fence with holes? Then simply Put wood over it so he can't get to the dog.
If he could use a chair to get over the fence, just buy a Canope (or those things that they use to keep the sun out......
Think about it...He COULD jump over it and get to you.....

In Summary....Get him on Video, so he can get off the streets...

For Dog breed I recommend.....

A SHAR-PEI!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shar_Pei

They are cute and wrinkly and they are VERY SMART....They are easy to toilet train and train over all....

Mine just goes to us and cries when she needs to go outside...and we just take her out and take her back in like in two minutes...

I would make fliers and hand them out to everyone in your neighborhood. I'm sure you have a neighborhood association as well? Make sure the husband/wife of the teenagers or any children in the close vacinity get them. Let them know of the threats he's made against you. Tell them your thoughts about him being able to see you in your front yard, so the parents are aware that their own children are possibly being watched.

I would have kept the shepherd. You can train pets not to eat foreign objects, but the best thing oot do is be in the backyard with your dog/family at all times. I would get a gun, and make sure he sees you cleaning it in the backyard. Like GK said...Get a pitbull. GREAT family dogs, but will protect the family with jaws that stay shut deep into someones flesh trying to protect you & your family from harm...Long enough for you to grab the shotty and blow someone's face off. Make sure you aim to kill if you ever point a gun at somebody(make sure you take classes to properly handle a gun if you haven't already..Keep it in a locked case so your son has no access to it).

Call the police om EVERY incident/altercation you have with your neighbor! NO MATTER HOW SMALL YOU THINK IT IS! That's what they are there for.

Brian had a good idea about hiring a PI as well. He could've been in prison for rape, murder, child molestation...ANYTHING. He could have any type of record. If not, you need to make sure he gets a file by continually reporting everything to police!

Keep us informed!

Hey all

Well the cops never got back to us letting us know if they were going to do anything about the threats or the camera. So we called them again and once again they told us they would look into it.

But the latest thing that happen was yesterday I was walking into the house from my car. My husband was getting my son out of the car. The guy opened his door and started to growl at me. My husband didnt hear him do that. I just ignored him and walked into the house. Once I was inside the guy went inside as well. Then when my husband came in the house I told him what happen.

OK, this guy sounds like he has some serious mental health issues, and I would honestly fear for my safety. :O The cops are not doing squat. You may want to consider going to court and trying to get a restraining order. He growled at you. I'm not sure what criteria is needed, but he did threaten you already. He's a psycho. And getting a gun sounds like a good idea at this point.
