The most intriguing conflict in the Bleach manga
has to be the unresolved political situation in Soul Society. Any governing power that has to keep an unhappy, unrepresented general populace, which it purports to serve and defend, at bay with a giant guarded wall

, is ripe for overturning.
And serendipitously left on this list are the two perfect characters representing the opposing sides. It’s like Ishin Shishi versus Shinsengumi!
Urahara Kisuke.
His character has been left deliberately vague to heighten the mystery
behind this man and his mission…
And just as Ichimaru Gin’s (
miss you
) actions made it appear that he is perhaps not all bad, Urahara’s actions point to him being
not entirely the guy in the white hat!
One thing is clear, he is out to change the current system…and he doesn’t have too many scruples
about using people to get it done...
Seemingly helpful in the protagonists plight,

he is, in fact, using them to further his underlying agenda.
Hiding the Hyougoku in Rukia,

putting her life in peril of those seeking it, while draining away all her powers.
Taking Ichigo,

making him strong enough to fight Soul Society,
and driving him to the brink of turning into a Hollow

…
As the man who started the Shinigamis' infamous Research and Development Institute, he recruited the dangerous criminal Mayuri, because he wanted to use his abilities

…which resulted in that sadist being in charge of it!
But even if his methods are questionable to say the least, when the battle over this is finally joined,
he will most certainly be on the
right side.

And, maybe then, what motivates this intriguing man will be revealed!
And on the
wrong side, standing in opposition to him, will be the defender of the status quo,
Kuchiki Byakuya!
Because of the peculiar circumstances regarding Rukia’s execution order,

Byakuya has not
really been forced to reexamine completely his adherence to upholding Soul Society's Rules and Regulations.
He remains convinced that preserving the order of Soul Society
is still of paramount importance.
Perhaps this is due to his being an aristocrat, or more likely, he is unconvinced that change will result in improvement.
Whatever the reason,
he is as scrupulous and principled

as Urahara is expedient and pragmatic, so somehow he must be truly unaware of the deprivation and suffering caused by the inattention to social services outside of Seireitei and a total lack of accountability for its governance.
Despite his expressed desire to purge himself of all feeling,

, we’ve seen in his dealings with Renji, Rukia, and Hisana, that Byakuya cares deeply about others. I’m hoping Byakuya will bend in the coming winds of change,
because, if not…he will break……
A vote for the exiled insurrectionist
Urahara Kisuke - Bleach
and
Fidei Defensor,
Kuchiki Byakuya- Bleach
