For anyone with galleries/sites on AOL Hometown

Post by Priss-chan »

I received an e-mail from AOL saying that AOL Hometown will be kaput at the end of October, so in case anyone else has sites or cel galleries or anything using Hometown, you're gonna have to move your site somewhere else, unless you want it to disappear =/

If you wanna save your pages, you can sign into AOL, go to Keyword: FTP, and follow the instructions there.

As for me, my gallery is on Rubberslug, but my fanfic site is on Hometown, so I need to find another site to park it on. Anyone have any (preferably free) recommendations?

Oh, I do have copies of my fics themselves on ff.net already. My Hometown site is mostly for character profiles, concordance pages, linking to other peoples' sites who've written crossover with my stories, fanart, stuff like that.

I guess I could check out Geocities or something. My problem is, I'm NOT HTML-savvy, so I want something that'll be easy for me to use and figure out ^^;

You can use any free host you want if you have/get a WYSIWYG html editor like FrontPage or Dreamweaver ;) and/or an FTP program like WSFTP.

I've been on paid hosting so long I don't even know who the free hosts are anymore 8O X|, but many used to offer free site-building tools when I was still using them.

Nvu is a free WYSIWYG html editor. It was recommended to me by a friend who is an experienced web designer, for ease of use.

http://sites.google.com it's free and seems fairly straight forward with no ads.
