Willy did get a lot more affectionate. He would just lay on my lap and drool all over me. I don't know if they sense that they don't have much time left or if they just don't like to be lonely when they are sick. I think animals are a lot more "aware" then most people give them credit for.

And I do see one good thing about putting a pet to sleep. At least you get to be there with them when they go, saying goodbye in their very last moments. Its so hard but they are not passing away alone. When humans die we cannot always be there with them in their last moments like we can with pets.

Update: Frisky seems a little more lethargic today -- didn't even try to pry open the door to his hiding spot in the laundry room, just hid under my bed for a while, and didn't resist when I pulled him out of there -- but he's still trying to be lovey.

Also, I finally got a good look inside his mouth last night. I had thought that all his teeth behind his lower left canine had been lost to the tumor, but it looks like only the first few behind it were lost. The ones further back are still intact. Still can't really handle hard food though =P

And, I am having car trouble X|

Still lethargic today. Won't eat his food all at once; he'll pick at it, leave, and come back to it later. Can't tell if the buprenorphine is doing anything for him now; heck, he no longer really resists when I give it to him. Did NOT sleep with me last night.

I am still hoping he'll feel better, but at the same time, I'm afraid Monday may have been his last good day.

Frisky seems to be a bit more active today, though he still seems a little weak and he's still not eating quite as much. Also, I added a second medication to his regimen today -- Metacam ("kitty Motrin"), of which I am supposed to give him one syringeful every three days. He seemed to be really happy after I gave it to him this afternoon.

Though, he did kinda weird me out in the middle of the night. He did lay next to me again, but I don't think he fell asleep all night. Every time I opened my eyes, he'd be sitting there, his face several inches from mine, just staring at me. He was so still that I had to pet him and make sure he hadn't died sitting up and staring at me o_o;

Nope, don't think I'll be having to make "that call" next week, though he is apparently starting to slow down. I'm still doing my best to keep him comfortable though.

You know.. my cat Pheobe was really sick when she was a kitten. because my Tama-san died is the only reason why I got to keep her... I had to bottle feed her and was with her constantly when I was not at work for a few weeks until she could feed on her own.. she still follows me around the house when I am there... LOL cute.. Anyways. For long time she would lay right next to me or on top of me... she would like to just stare though... Lay on top of me... and stare... Sometimes I couldnt sleep because it would freak me out. >_> Now she sleeps on the pillow next to mine(I have a queen size bed so she takes up the other half) and she stares from there.. which isnt as bad? @_@

I am glad your kitty is feeling better today. He is just wanting to spend as much time as possible with you... even if that means just staring. :l

I apologize for the lack of updates. I was at NDK all weekend ^_^

On Friday I added a new medication to Frisky's regimen: Metacam ("kitty Motrin," a painkiller and anti-inflammatory. I give it to him every three days). Let me tell you, he is like a new cat. He perked up right away. Certainly no more lethargy ^_^

(Alas, the donations and offers literally stopped after I announced that he does indeed have SCC. Go fig...)

Frisky did bleed quite a bit yesterday, but fortunately it's better today. Unfortunately he pretty much looks like this all the time now:

(Taken about 15-20 minutes ago)

He was fine earlier today, but in the afternoon he started seeming tired. Not lethargic, just tired. Stayed by my side as usual. Still tired right now. The Metacam didn't perk him up like it did the first two times I gave it to him. Hopefully it's just another bad day and tomorrow he'll be perky again.

Just 'cause it's been too long without an update...

Gave him more Metacam today, still didn't perk him up. He's not as tired, but he's still slower than usual. Try as he might to clean himself, his fur is not looking its best, so I'm brushing him to help him out. He's always hungry, and no matter how much food I shove at him he is still losing weight. What food I do give him is taking him a little longer to finish, so I may have to start watering it down to help him along.

Poor kitty. I can relate to how you feel. I hope Frisky gets better soon!

Just got back from the vet -- wanted to give him a weigh-in, and luckily the scale is in the waiting room -- and apparently he still weighs the same. The lady at the desk said maybe his weight is just shifting around in his body. That's a bit of a relief, but that doesn't change the fact he ALWAYS seems to be hungry ^^;

Obligatory update time.

I feel like I've seen a slow decline in Frisky over the past week, although my b/f says he hasn't seen a difference (but then, he doesn't really hang out with him). He's been quite tired the last few days, and you know for a cat, that's saying something. His coat isn't its most luxurious, and although Frisky does his mightiest to clean himself his drool just make the fur stiff, so I've been brushing him.

Weighed him again yesterday. He's down a tiny bit, from 13.7 pounds to 13.5.

Had to start buying the 9 Lives that has loads of gravy in it, just to help him eat a little better. And yeah, he still bugs me all day for more food @.@; Eats pretty much whatever I give him with little problem.

My funds have run dry. If anybody can help me out again, that'd be nice (heck, if an online friend hadn't given me some a few days ago I wouldn't have been able to refill his buprenorphine today). I could always chuck some cels onto the offer table if it comes to that =P

Yikes, I feel for you. Buprenorphine is so expensive, :hurt: but IMO, it's the best pain medicine out there for pets. My rabbit is also on buprenorphine and metacam daily. I am checking into target pharmacy right now for the buprenorphine. They might carry it cheaper than the vet. I'll let you know if I find anyone who carries it for less.

Mixing the food with water and mashing it up may help Frisky eat more. I also do this for my rabbit, as he has practically no teeth. :emb

I'm sorry to hear Frisky's activity has slowed, but I'm sure he is happy that you have been caring for him so attentively.

Hang in there.

The buprenorphine is $17.55 for a five-day supply (which is more like four-and-a-half as they only give me nine prefilled 0.1 ml syringes). Ugh. I do work at a Walgreens, but I haven't asked any of the pharmacists how much it would run there. And I'm not sure they can give me an accurate estimate unless I actually get some filled there =P Wouldn't hurt to try, I guess.

The Metacam is about $24 for five prefilled 0.20 cc syringes (about a fifteen-day supply, as I give him one every three days).

Oh, he eats like a pig. I give him three half-cans a day. Can you imagine if I doubled that? I'd be going through a case a week! XD

If you have an amount they should be able to give you an estimate. Also they should be able to give you a little attatchment to put on the bottle they will fill the RX in so you can easily stick a syringe at the top of it to turn the bottom upside down so you get a accurate measurement. At least they have those at some pharmacies... they have had them at all of the ones I have worked out in the past. Times may have changed though :-/

Also, You will need to speak up with getting a RX from the vet. Vets make money whenever you get your drugs from them. If they give you a RX then that is money they are losing out on because you are going somewhere else to get the meds. it all depends on the vet.. I do know they make good bit of money from little services like that. I had a vet charge me $20 for a little bottle of antibiotics that I would have easily mixed myself. not only that, I knew it had to cost him at MAX $5. If I were to have filled that at a local pharmacy? I would have paid no more than $5. I didn't say anything though because that is apart of his services. Plus he didn't know what I did for a living either. LOL

good luck. @_@

Sounds like Frisky is going run up a bigger food bill than the meds bill :)
