There was a rather heated argument about bishonens not belonging in the Hunk category because they are traditionally effeminate, apparently. So, to accommodate those fans of bishonens, the category was changed to simply Male. Same kind of thing for Babe. The more detail you write for a category, the more constrained the voting guidelines become. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good for those of us who may not know how exactly to judge what we're looking at. Bad for those of us who would rather just be carefree with our choices. The categories could easily be edited with more information if people were unhappy with the laconic approach, just as long as arguments don't erupt over what belongs where and why, or why certain pieces don't really fit the category.

Yes, it is much the same.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

This is exactly what I was thinking ... that it could be good or bad, depending on how you prefer to make your voting choices. Personally, I don't mind the freedom to choose based on my own definition of "male", but perhaps some would rather see a more strict definition. Dunno. I'm game either way.wELCOME cONSUMER wrote: The more detail you write for a category, the more constrained the voting guidelines become. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. On the organization front:
CB, you indicated that you wanted to wrap up some of this discussion by tomorrow. That would be most beneficial for me, as I'm starting to need more detailed info to complete parts of the site. A category list would be great, as well as some dates/timelines/rules.

This is probably a bad time to ask this (since I have the entry submission forms almost complete) -- but, does anyone object to some very basic cookies being used during the entry submission process? They will be deleted upon completion of entry submission and will not contain any personal information (unless of course, you consider what categories you've chosen to be personal information).

I like DS's idea of a points system since it lets me pick 3 entries rather than just 1 and I can just decide which ones I like best in that order. I have no problems with ties(the more trophies handed out the better IMO). I think the animated section should remain optional. While it was a popular section with the amount of entries last year, it'll be a pain for people with slow connections. As for hentai, well, some don't have the same twisted interest as me
, so I say keep it optional. As for the cel/sketch split, keep them together. I never had a problem voting on sketches if I felt that they portray the idea for the category it's in. Also I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but are participants allowed to vote on their own entries?
I have no problems with the last years categories as for the new ones:
Bank:
Dislike. I don't think these warrant their own category. Besides, I think some of them can be entered in other categories(ex. action, animated etc.).
The original settei/storyboard category:
Dislike. How will this category be judged? Does the person have to have the original drawings? Also settei and storyboards usually consist of more than 1 piece of arkwork.
Injured/Dying/Dead:
I like this category. Death scenes can have different impacts depending on the situation and can be different from the sorrow category.
Layouts,Genga:
I think these should be allowed to enter other categories rather than give them their own. Though a layout category sounds nice.
Anyway whatever you guys decide it's cool with me

Yes, I'd like to end discussion tonight on the subject and get some clear rules going.zerospace wrote:CB, you indicated that you wanted to wrap up some of this discussion by tomorrow. Killua, I have no problem with you submitting artwork from another country as long as it fits any of the catagories. So, if your artwork an American hanken, you can put that in the 'hanken' catagory.
I think there was some mention about using some previous catagories. In terms of the Yaoi/Yuri stuff, if it's hentai, you can use it for that catagory or, depending on the artwork, for romance or groups. I have no problem with including Yaoi/Yuri stuff in those catagories, but if anyone has a serious complaint about the inclusion of that type of artwork, let me know.
I think that there was some mention of using previous catagories. I noticed that the 2006 competition had a 'Best Special Effect' catagory. This would nicely resolve the issue of having a Bank catagory(for the most part), as well as including a lot of other great artwork. Some artwork, such as the famous powering up scenes in Dragonball, don't quite fit into any catagories.
Also, is there any complaints about including Studio authorized Repro cels in all viable catagories this year? We've included Rilezu in the past, so I kind of view this along the same line.

Personally I think Yaoi, Yuri, cels/sketches shouldn't be in the majority. Not that I care to see them in the main catagory or anything like that. But purely from an objective point of view the majority of individuals on this board are females... So I am fairly sure that the yaoi material in the seperate sections would get the majority of votes... As far as Yuri (which I love heh) I would defintely be bised toward voting for yuri in any section purely because female x female action is hot. Thus is why I suggest keeping them seperate sections verses allowing them to be submited in the majority..cutiebunny wrote:zerospace wrote:CB, you indicated that you wanted to wrap up some of this discussion by tomorrow. So.. EofP, is this a suggestion to split the adult stuff into three distinct categories? (Hentai, Yaoi, and Yuri)
While I totally see your point, I think the category list is getting rather long if we start doing that. Not that I mind, but if you limit people to 5 entries and have a long list of categories, you're bound to have more that don't make the required number of entries (therefore a greater risk of them being cut from the competition).

None here. I think that they can be viewed the same way we view rilezu, and I don't see a reason to exclude them.cutiebunny wrote:Also, is there any complaints about including Studio authorized Repro cels in all viable catagories this year? I would say don't allow it, but that is just because in some cases HUNDREDS of identical images were produced. What if two (or more) people try and enter the same repro into the same category? Who gets priority? Or even weirder, what if the same repro image was entered by different people into multiple categories?cutiebunny wrote:Also, is there any complaints about including Studio authorized Repro cels in all viable catagories this year? I think we should stick to production and unique post-production items.
My thoughts echo ReiTheJelly's.
As for Yaoi, Yuri, I don't think separation is necessary. People who'd object would object to some romance being portrayed. That would limit their submissions to either Hentai or Couples. There's no such thing as a Yaoi rage cel. You might have an rage cel from a yaoi anime, but there'd be no essential Yaoi-ness to it. I don't believe Yaoi and Yuri cels would suddenly swamp all categories and pull home tons of prizes. If people want to vote for or against them for the couples section just because they're yaoi or yuri, well I believe that's their prerogative. Although I'd hope people would vote for the best cel regardless of the cel's sexual orientation.
