Maybe I'm stupid but I don't understand any of this

What I understand so far is that characters names are put forward then someone else might declare that they recognize/like that character. To what end?...

, but I’m doing this, as I did the manga character thread, because I enjoy having a forum to post about interesting roles, aspects, and characteristics of wonderful, favorite, fictional characters!

And in addition to introducing to, and/or interesting/convincing others of, the unique or special qualities of these characters; in so doing, I have the pleasure of focusing on them again, myself!

I still don't understand. How will anyone know anything about the characters just because you publish their name? I'm honestly missing the point here

When the names are submitted, are these characters assigned a range of statistics like Top Trumps? Do they have a fictional battle to see who's best? What's the idea behind 'selling', does it turn into a YJ auction-like event with the proceeds going to the Crippled Animators' Guild?

Oh the characters don't fight...

We just vote for our favorite characters... So there's no stats for the characters.

So when you second a character it's like giving that character a big hug!

Oh by the way... Has anyone seconded Konata Izumi of Lucky Star?

Once your character is seconded, you'll probably get the opportunity (depending on what the rules for round two will be) to explain why your characters are deserving of someone's vote, and why you chose them. Unfortunately, if no one knows your character, you'll be sunk before you reach round two.

You could hop over to the manga threads to see how the game went over there. Maybe it can help answer some of your questions.

But I'll try too.

Basically, this is just a fun little game to see what characters and series everyone likes. There will be many people you don't know and that's why later I'll open up selling of your characters. That is simply where you describe your character or even a character someone else nominated but you really like too. Your description of the character can be as long or as short as you want. You can also include images to help jog people's memories as I find for me that has the most impact.

Selling will open up during this round. However, it is NOT available for the first week as that's when the majority of nominations come in. It's too hard to sift through everyone's nominations and seconds with the selling included. Once the second week hits, I'll announce you can sell your characters if you want. It's not required. At that time, you can describe your character to your heart's content in the hopes that someone will second them so they can make it to the next round. If you noticed, many people are holding on to seconds. That's one of the reasons why.

I have not read that much manga so when we did the manga thread I learned a lot. I added a few manga to my "want to read" list because of this series of games as some characters really intrigued me. I've seen thousands of episodes of anime but I haven't seen them all. So I'm hoping I can learn something new and get intrigued enough to add an anime to my "want to watch" list from this series of threads. I hope that others will too.

I hope that clears some things up. Again, you can check out the manga threads for some more details.

GK, yup. It's just like your second never happened so you do have another one. When we did the manga nomination thread, I was pointing out to people how many nods and seconds they had left. This thread has more people responding so I'm keeping my own tally so no one goes over the 5 allowed but I'm not typically pointing it out to the individuals. No worries! Believe me I know how hard it is to keep track. I nominated someone, then realized they already were when I did my first update so I seconded them. A few posts later I saw them seconded so I just decided to nominate and second a few more later.

Ah the joys of the edit button.
