a Sad Day...

Post by gundamx2 »

Hello everyone.

Today is a very sad day for me.

I woke up this morning and found out my pet bird, Coco, has passed away.

He did show a lot of signs that it was almost time such as heavy breathing using his mouth, having a hard time walking, no strength when climbing, very quiet (he is usually very talkative), etc.

It seems he passed away sometime during the night in his sleep. He moved to the middle of the cage and spread out one of his wings to cover his face. His tail feathers were spread out (when he was alive, spread out tail feathers indicated that he was happy). So I like to believe he passed away happy and without pain.

I cried for quite a while lying on the floor.

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but I will be able to move on as time passes. Although it is very sad to see him leave, and that it will be lonely whenever I come home now, I still remember the good 19 years we had together. He wasn't just a pet bird; he was family. While he is not here physically anymore, he will remain in my heart till the end of time.

Coco passed away earlier than I expected, and since I am still unemployed right now, I was never able to raise the funds for Coco's coffin and a burial spot in a pet cemetery.

So, once again, I will announce that my collection is up for offers. And, if anyone can support me in raising the funds, that would be great. Thanks.

Here is a picture of Coco. I will put all the pictures and movie files I have of him in my website soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about Coco. :l 19 years is great. It sounds like you took really good care of him. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I understand how hard it is to lose a pet. Like Robo said, he's in a better place now.

Does a bird have a buddha-nature?

Mu, the zen master Joshu said, which has been taken to mean "Of course not," or, alternatively, "No, I refuse to answer that silly question."

But I've always read this story with my ear rather than my eye, and thought Joshu was saying "Moooo!" or, more literally, we're all animals, aren't we? So why assume that a bird's spirit is made of something different from yours and mine (or from the Buddha's for that matter).

I am sorry for your loss: parting from a companion, whether it's a spouse, a child, a parent, or a fellow traveler on your path of life is always a solemn occasion. But I also cannot help but feel that once spirit is created by the maker of us all, no power exists to uncreate it. In the long run, all will be well.

I also had a bird that passed away (he was more like a little brother to me than a pet... well God knows ive talked about him so much here that everyone knows our story).

he passed about 7 years ago and i still cry for him believe it or not.

theyre your family.

i hope your sales go good so you can give him a proper burial!

take care!

Hi.

Thank for your kind support, everyone.

It makes me and Coco (who is now in heaven) happy to know that there are people who care.

I still need more time to get over this loss, but I will try my best to move on.

I will see Coco again in maybe 60 years.

I am also very sorry for your loss. I've never had a bird before - someday I would like to. Twenty years is a long time and it only makes it harder when they pass.

Hi Gundamx2,

So sorry to hear :(. 19 years is a long time, I had no idea birds lived that long. I really like the pic you posted; so much personality ^^. He looked like a super-happy, cheeky little guy. Good luck with your sales; I can understand how important it is...

Also I kind of agree with Sensei's sentiments. Animals are not insignificant and there's no reason to deny them a 'soul'.

I also, like you, think of my dog as a brother ^.^. A slightly slow-witted one and incapable of speech, but definately another "person" deserving of respectful treatment despite the rest of us being in charge lol. My mother used to say I was his "mummy" and I was like, "Ick! NO! I am his *sister*. He's your hairier 'youngest son'!" (-> hugged giant hairy dog playfully)
