I LOVE GETTING THOSE!!!!!!!!!
I get paid by my job and a tiny bit of money from them. Plus i get to work normal hours... not this night bs i usually work. good for you!
Well I certainly enjoyed riding a bus seventeen miles to get home from Jury Duty back in May.
At least the large outside balcony had a nice view of the Long Beach area. It brought back memories of when I was attending Anime Expo and staying at the motels out there. Great fun. Much more fun than Jury Duty.
The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I liked having a paid day off too. I lived 5-10 min from the courthouse and never had to sit in on a case, so I caught up on my reading during the day.
Update: Well, I just check the website to see which group #'s have been picked. I managed to barely escape the first wave of destruction.
Let's see if my luck holds up. Probably won't, lol.
I know some people go their whole life without having to go to jury duty at all or at least very few times, but I get this darn letter every single darn year. Yea, very random selection process. Pshh.
Tune in next Monday for the latest update. Same cel time. Same cel channel.

Thankfully I've only been called once, and didn't get picked.
My husband gets called every 3 years faithfully. He just got a new summons a couple weeks ago. In Mass, you are allowed to delay service for up to a year, so we always postpone it. Last time, right before he was due to serve, they sent a letter canceling it, so he didn't have to go.
Good luck!

I've been called numerous times -- served once. A week-long boring-arse civil case that should never have seen the light of day. Yay. Biggest waste of my time, especially during a busy time at work. Bleh!
Actually, I got called in California about 1 year after moving here! Pennsylvania called me twice within 6 years or so, and that's about it.
I'm lucky - everytime I get a jury duty notice, I get my boss to write a letter saying that work is very busy, and he can't afford to not have me there.
Plus, if we end up on jury duty - we don't get paid for our normal work day, and the courts give us crap all too. Not to mention we have to sit in a small room all day, for up to 2 weeks waiting to be called - which isn't even guarenteed
Like Zerospace, I had to be on a civil case that was a total joke.
Trip, fall, sue.
A ten day waste of time. The reason it took so long is that both law firms put new lawyers on the case (wonder why) and they had to be coached by the judge through the entire trial.
It took about 5 minutes for a unanimous decision. It would have been faster but we needed to fill out the form the judge gave us. After that, we sat around and told dirty jokes for about 15 minutes so the new lawyers wouldn't feel bad.
When we were leaving the bailiff told us that we were very loud. They (judge, bailiff and court reporter) could hear us laughing from the judge's quarters. Luckily they could not make out what we were saying.
I have been called a few other times, but fortunately never served again.
Anyways, I hope it turns out that you don't have to serve and if you do it will be quick and painless.
