Vampire Knight (Any opinons for a newb?)

Post by MidniteKitten »

I've looked into the artwork from the series after a fan cel request and was quite taken away at how beautiful some of the images that popped up were. I was interested in starting the anime but have my reservations as I haven't enjoyed many of the recent animes. If anyone can give some opinons, plot and what it most reminds them of that would be most helpful. Thank you!

Interesting topic. Have you searched the open directory? I would do a search for it.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

A description of Vampire Knight:

"Cross Academy is different from other schools. It has a Day Class and a Night Class, with different uniforms and no interaction between these two classes. Secretly, students of the Night Class are all vampires, led by Kuran Kaname, a noble vampire who 10 years prior saved Cross Yuki from the attack of a stray vampire. Now a Guardian of the Night Class vampires, Yuki works along with fellow classmate Kiriyuu Zero, a young man with a hatred for vampires deeper than anything she could imagine. Together, they protect Kaname and the Night Class vampires from having their identities revealed, as well as protect Day Class students from any vampire attacks that occur do to a vampire's natural thirst for blood. Based on the manga by Hino Matsuri."

If you like the artwork, then it's definitely worth giving it a watch. My rule of thumb is to always try to watch at least 3 episodes. If you don't like it by then, you probably aren't going to like it. It's sort of like Romeo & Juliet where the Day and Night classes are the Capulets and Montagues. Although, they don't hate each but they do have to remain separate so no incidents happen. At the center is a love triangle with Kaname and Zero basically "fighting" over Yuki.

As with any vampire themed series, there will be blood and incest. It's also dark in the sense that a lot of scenes happen at night because vampires come out at night.

Compared to other anime, well, I need to think more about that one. Someone compared it to Fruits Basket. I don't really agree with that entirely but I could see where they were coming from.

My best advice is just watch the first 3 episodes yourself. Keep going if you like it but don't force yourself if you don't. Everyone likes different things.

The artwork and "feel" I assume from the little love triangel could make for a Fruits Basket-esque relation for some. Seeing as I own the Fruits Basket box set it may be worth a go. Ill watch a few eps on Youtube and see if its worth a buy. Still appreciate any input from anyone. Thank you again!

It is good enough.

It is entertaining. I'm not a VK fangirl but the art is pretty, and the story is good. Try it.

It's not on dvd yet, it's not even licensed yet. So it's not like you have to spend money to give it a shot, just your time.

So true. It's all over torrents and youtube.

People need to make up their own minds about a show anyway. If a show is not for you it's not for you, no matter how many others love it.

well good luck, hope you like it! :D

I'm kind of the same way. I enjoy a lot but excited for a series just doesn't happen that often. Although, I just finished watching Ghost Hunt. I couldn't wait to see each episode. But maybe that's because most of them ended on cliffhangers. X| :emb

OMG - YES!!!

I've seen those commercials too. My ears perked up every time to end with a big sigh. /swt I wish they would do another season. I guess I'll just have to go hunt down the manga now. :P

You're right, MidniteKitten. Vampire Knight has very nice artwork. Everything and everybody are so beautiful - you just fall in love with them (especially the vampires hee hee...). It's a story about a girl named Yuuki who was saved from a vampire by another vampire when she was very young. She now attends a school that has Day Class for regular students and Night Class for vampires. I like how the story revolves around the relationship between Yuuki, Zero (her childhood friend) and Kaname (the vampire who saved her). There are a lot of mysteries and questions in the plot (for example: Why did Zero hate vampires so much? Why did Kaname save her?) and almost every episode ends on a cliffhanger which leaves you craving for more (at least that's how I felt). Honestly, I was hooked after watching the first episode. One of the best things about this anime is that it is filler-free so, you don't have to worry about random characters popping up here and there and dying a few episodes later. I hope you give this anime a try and maybe you'll like it. Have fun! :)

Thanks Mappi and everyone else! I watched an episode and really loved it. I am downloading the fansub from a torrent but I really hope they can bring it over here to the US. That would be one amazing boxed set. Thank you everyone for your help and opinions. ^w^
