Thanks, everyone. I feel privileged that so many people took time, even with the board being down, to add their good wishes. Getting Beta back so quickly was, in itself, a nice birthday present. So thanks first to Magician and Goldknight for handling a messy and unwanted crisis. I hope the new server will be a stable place for this community for months and years to come. Thanks too to kittens for starting the other thread.
I had a very quiet day, as both I and my anime-hating wife are fighting a low-grade virus. Rather than a cake, I made myself a Key Lime pie (with real Key Lime juice), and we went out to Olive Garden. (I tried to find a little Japanese restaurant, but directions in Cephiro are sometimes hard to follow, so we settled for paisano.)
I got three books, one on sailing to Antarctica, one on stone age Europe, and one on how ethnic stereotypes got us in trouble in the Middle East. Plus new underpants, a long-sleeve polo, and a waterproof wallet for my pool card etc. The underbidder for my Syaoran pan cel sent me a very nice calendar of Cultural Heritage sites in Japan. (We exchange calendars every year, and I sent her one of Cephiro nature photography.)
The big surprise is, out of the blue, vampyreshoujo sent me two very nice TnN cels! I was really very flattered, as I feel more indebted to her for her wonderful reanimations than in need of being gifted. Even my wife allowed as how they were beautiful and looked on in some bemusement as I dialed up their locations on my laptop (where I have all 26 episodes loaded on the hard-drive for every emergency.)
Many thanks to all, and Happy Birthday to J. R. R. Tolkien and Kinomoto Fujitaka, the two role models with whom I share my birthday.
You are officially extremely cool in my book now.sensei wrote: Even my wife allowed as how they were beautiful and looked on in some bemusement as I dialed up their locations on my laptop (where I have all 26 episodes loaded on the hard-drive for every emergency.)
By the way, don't worry, my husband doesn't like anime either. And on the rare occasion I can get him to think about watching it, he want to watch dubs.. *shudder*
