New Anime Season January 2009

Post by Keropi »

Here's a preview of new anime TV series coming out in January 2009. This info comes from Moonphase, AnimeNfo, Anime News Network Encyclopedia, Fansubwiki, Anime News Service and Wikipedia. The AnimeSuki Forum has become too difficult to conduct multiple searches, but I still found many of NeoSam's genre descriptions by skipping Suki's search feature and using Google and "[anime title] animesuki":

I'm leaving out "Koto Nakare Hero Gingerman" and that "Butazuka"-whatever anime.
Scheduled dates are subject to change without notice. Some anime will have early preview releases, etc.

http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,4417 ... is_po.html
Genre: Comedy, Historical
(From Baka-Updates:) ----- Think of it like WWII, except every country is a pretty boy instead. A hilariously stereotypical pretty boy. America loves burgers, Russia is into the vodka, and China has pandas and a Wok. It is centered mostly around Italy, who has both a North and South character. The Hetalia portion of the name is probably mocking Italy, as Hetare means 'Useless'.
(From Domino:) ----- Hetalia (made up of the words for useless + italy) is the story of the countries of the world made into people, carrying with them that nation's stereotypes. The main setting is the WWI/WWII era, but other scenes from history (such as the American Revolution) are sometimes depicted. The story is centered around the Axis Powers, and the main character is Italy, who is a clumsy idiot who loves pasta and pizza. He is joined by the serious sausage-eating Germany and the polite and shy Japan. It is a gag manga that takes pieces of history and makes them funny, poking fun at the stereotypes and quirks of countries around the world. Because of this, fans say that this manga is the key to world peace. :P

Thanks for the info! Looking forward to Kurokami and Maria Holic. :) Both are from beautifully drawn mangas. I hope the anime adaptations do the books justice.

Here's a nice poster containing most (if not all) the series' airing in Winter 2008/09. Thought it might be useful here :) (Note: I did not make this)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b251/ ... tv2mh2.jpg

There's a few series I'm looking forward to this season:

Birdy the mighty decode 2
Vipers Creed
Rideback
Sora wo kakeru shoujo
Candy Boy

There's a few others I'll watch the first ep of and see how they are. I'll probably give Munto (sora wo miageru shoujo...) a watch - simply because it's Kyoani who's doing it. Haven't seen the OVA though.

More Hajime no Ippo?! I have to finish my DVD's still!

Kemono no Souja Erin looks interesting. I wish they would animated the second guardian book, but at least I'll be able to read it soon.

I have to finish the first seasons of Shikabane and Druaga before thinking about more. Come to think of it... I haven't seen the Marimite OVAs yet, either.

Soda can girl??

I'll try Maria holic and Kurokami. Birdy Decode started great and ended disappointing, but Ill give 02 a whirl. I wish Candy Boy episodes weren't so scarce. I always forget about the series.

Is this Natsume Yuujinchou something I should consider trying?

Thanks for the list, Keropi! 8)

Hmm...I dunno. I thought I told you some time ago that I liked the show. Lol :^^:

But since you don't watch that many shows at the same time, maybe you might want to concentrate on the anime you would most want to collect from (that is if something from them ever showed up).

Thanks! I like that poster. I seen it before I started the list, but I like the way they create it for easy reference before the season starts. I've seen that for previous seasons. Is that from someone on the AOD Forum?

I first started making simple anime season lists several years ago. As time progressed, I added more info of the kind that I needed to the anime titles on the list.

There are a lot of good anime season preview webpages out there. The reasons I still prefer creating my own list are:

1. New Season Previews usually always fail to mention a few of the anime titles that are coming out. I expect the "talking 3-D CG toy" anime to be left out, but I hate it when they left out shows such as "Sasami ~ Mahou Shoujo Club". A lot of places didn't mention that Scarecrow anime either. I might have actually watched a little more of that if someone had ever fansubbed it.

2. I'd like to have an idea of what the anime is about without it being filtered through someone's opinions on what makes a "good" show. A lot of New Season Previews go into why the blogger likes the anime, but don't say too much what the anime's story is about.

3. I prefer knowing if the original source was shoujo/josei/shounen/seinen because I'd like to know what direction the fanservice might come from, etc. :^^:

4. Some New Season Previews are created so early that when the scheduling changes more anime titles than usual are listed as airing on the wrong dates. They also fail to mention the anime that got added late or the anime that might start in the second or third month.

5. I prefer using the 12-hour AM/PM time instead of the more confusing 24-hour time listings.

At any rate, new season lists make for good record keeping of what was showing (or was scheduled to appear) during past anime seasons.

You probably did. If I search my e-mail, I'll probably find it. There's so many shows out there that sometimes I feel like :wow: and a little :nuts and finally turns me into a :blob Unless I've seen some of it, it probably trickles out of my head with the rest of my lost brain cells. :D
But since you don't watch that many shows at the same time, maybe you might want to concentrate on the anime you would most want to collect from (that is if something from them ever showed up).

Lol! I don't even do a good job of that. Shikabane does have it's problems, but I'm really liking it so far... (I'm up to 5, now)

Hm...I think I'll try Ride Back, too. I wonder if it is supposed to be one word, or two?

Yeah...there's Fansub Wiki here:

http://www.fansubwiki.com/Who_Subs_What:_WINTER_2008

I must say that I'm getting a little bored waiting for the new shows to come out. Most of the shows I want to see the most come out later in the season this time. I'm kind of missing those Spring and Fall seasons where thirty new anime debut during the first WEEK. :D

I have too much spare time on my hands. I think I'll go through some of my box of old tapes so I can watch what's on them and throw them away. They're taking up too much space and I never seem to rewatch anything anymore anyway.

I thought I'd be able to throw a tape away after getting "Silent Moebius Movie 1" and "Legend of Lemnear" out of the way, but it still had a couple of other anime on it. One of them I can't recognize, but the other turned out to be Dragon's Heaven. Really old stuff there. :)

I still have that Edelweiss game to finish. I've only reached one character ending so far. The story and settings are similar to Green Green.

Reading ecchi harem manga also passes time pretty well. :emb
