As confirmed by The New York Times today. This is partly to help publicize Disney's release of Ponyo, which reportedly will see a wider distribution than either Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle.
Good luck to my West Coast friends in getting a chance to see him at one of his appearances. As the article notes, he's very leery about visiting the United States, and so this may be a unique opportunity.

I had wondered if he was going to stop in at Comic Con, since initially I heard he was coming over for a special presentation by Lasseter and Disney...lifetime achievement or something to that effect, plus LA premieres of Ponyo. Since it was around the same time...I figured comic con would be a shoo in.
