Prior to last year's awards, I believe this is how rilezu were handled (can't recall if they were actually ever given their own category or if they were simply not allowed period).

I'm of the same opinion on this one -- colored hankens, yes. Plain ol' copies, no. Many CG hankens have at least one sheet that is a copy of the clean douga that is then hand-colored. Sometimes these are so nicely done that it would be a shame to disqualify them and make the competition amongst the relatively boring clean-line dougas and the few hanken gengas that are out there.

Prior to the Cel awards last year, rilezu items were not allowed in any category.

My thought is that the awards should evolve as the hobby does. Post-production artwork is becoming normal in the industry, especially since the demand for colored media still exists despite the fact that cels are no longer being produced. That's why I vouch that we allow rilezu sketches in all applicable categories.

I thought I mentioned it in the rules section, but for the purpose of the sketch awards, I have no problem with layers being merged to make a scene. So if there are 4 seperate sketches and they're all merged to make a complete scene, then, that's fine. However, coloring an item to make it stand out more or adding a background, imo, is not acceptable in the sketch awards.

^It's all good then, I agree on that, since some of my items have different layers >_<, but it's all good, since cels can have many layers so can sketches...so Yay...:)
I thought I mentioned it in the rules section
Did you update them? Maybe I read the rules from the other awards ^^;

I don't have any rilezu, but since layers are excepted, It's all good ^^.....

Actually, rilezu were allowed in any category in 2007 too. I know, cause one of mine won an award for Romance.

I'm fine if rilezu douga and/or merged images are allowed.

I do think the merged image thing was mentioned somewhere, because I remember reading it, too. :O I definitely think that merged images should be allowed anyways, as lots of sketch sets would lose their impact if they couldn't be viewed as they were intended on the screen ;).

Updated :)

I've also corrected the area regarding image modification, so hopefully it is a little clearer now...

Fanarts cannot be painted (that'll be for the cel awards) but can be done in colored pencil, marker, etc.

I have no idea as to what finished media with copic markers looks like. I would say that if the final look appears to be painted, then, no. But as many shikishi items have colored markers on them, then, I see no reason as to why they should not be allowed in the fan-art category.

So, if shikishi is fan art, then can it still be done by the
original character designers, manga creators, ect.....

That's what I get for typing at 4am.

No, what I meant to say that I see no reason as to why colored media(with the exception of paintings) should not be allowed in fan-art. There's a lot of shikishi that is colored with markers and no restrictions have been placed on that category.

Shikishi is shikishi. It is not fan-art and should be done by those who work in the production world.

Any chance this can be tweaked even a little? Those are the exact dates when we'd planned to go on vacation, and I don't know if I will have Internet access during this time, or the leisure time to look through the submissions. I know going later would run close to Labor Day, but even a few days extension on one side or the other would make a difference in my ability to be involved this year.

It's going to depend on the schedule of some of the other members involved. All three of us have had a lot of things going on this summer, which has made putting together the awards a longer process than we had hoped for.

Unfortunately, if we delay this project much longer, Fall will be here, and that will cut into the cel awards that occur.

Well, I'll wait and see. But even a change of one day earlier or later would let me in the door; otherwise, I'm shut out now.
