How you've grown as a fan

Post by Keropi »

I'm borrowing this topic from someone who borrowed it from someone else (I don't know who said it):

From the time you first started to now, how have you "matured" or grown as an anime / manga fan, and as a person? Or have you at all?

I'm sure I've changed a little over time. However, my anime viewing and manga reading haven't changed enough for me to really notice. I thought long and hard about this but I guess I'm still the same. The only thing that's changed is how many anime I've seen now versus then.

Even though I've seen anime my entire life without realizing it, next year marks 15 years of me being an avid anime viewer. :^^:

Anyone else remember 15th generation VHS tapes that you could hardly recognize and barely read from the fansub network? I started in 1969 with the introduction of Astroboy in black & white to America, moved on to Dragonball and never stopped.

Everything is completely different 8O

I don't go that far back, but those fuzzy anime tapes bring back memories.

Not much actually. I guess I like uncut shows ALOT more than cut. When I was alot younger swearing would bother me so I'd only buy the cut versions like the young idiot I was. :^^: Yay for corruption! And now I actually have money to spend on anime/manga without counting change to buy stuff. So yeah. Besides that nothing much changed. :D

Let's see...

I started out in the mid 90s watching just whatever I could scrounge up at the video rental place or borrow from people. Mainly that was older Sci-Fi/Horror movies and OVAs like BGC, Akira, etc.

Then I got a a little more into it and started getting some fansubs and some of the newer TV shows coming out (Bebop, Trigun, Eva) Went to my first convention in 1999...

Then as anime stepped up even more in popularity I went to college and kind of dropped off for a few years.

Then in the past year or so I have gotten into it again, especially watching Death Note, Code Geass and Gurren Lagann I came to appreciate some of the newer stuff coming out.

So that's where I'm at!
