The only change from what we posted Wednesday is that tranquility is now in. The rest is the same for now, with 23 categories still needing to be filled.
We believe that many people didn't get the chance to prepare their submissions during the week and will likely submit this week-end. The numbers might change rapidly if we are correct.
Regardless, we'll do our best to keep everyone up-to-date!

It might be a good idea to bold the categories that have 5 or more entries on the front page. That way, contestants can get an idea as to which categories to submit artwork too easily and without having to go through lots of pages of messages.
Additionally, if time is of the essence, you could always post the contestant's names who have sucessfully submitted their artwork on the front page. Then, there's no question as to whether or not their submissions have been received.

Participation sent in time (not easy when you live in France for hours!)

We just finished checking another batch of entries. Time for an update. ^__^
As of 1 p.m. Saturday, the following categories have five or more entries:
Accessory
Background
Children
Creature
Female
Group
Hanken
Joy
Male
Outfit
Rage
Romance
Shocked
Sorrow
Tranquility
That leaves 18 categories that have less than five entries.
We've sent confirmation emails to everyone whose submissions we've reviewed so far.
Keep them coming everyone! ^__^ There's only thirty-one hours left to submit!

In the event
Hi,
In the event the category we have entered gets dropped (currently 3 that I have entered do not have enough entries) How is the process for resubmission going to work?
Under the Submission rules;
6) Categories with fewer than five entries will be eliminated. You will have the chance to re-submit artwork to another category.
Just curious in case I have to quickly get another entry ready!
Thanks
Alyssium

Could you please mention how many are missing in the other categories, or say how many are in those categories so far so people know, and the collectors that still would like to enter could maybe do so in those missing categories to fill it up to at least 5. It's a shame that not all categories been filled yet. I think this is the first year this is happening.Angelic-Lair wrote:That leaves 18 categories that have less than five entries.

That would be a great way of not having to do too much by just bold the categories that have 5 or more entries.cutiebunny wrote:It might be a good idea to bold the categories that have 5 or more entries on the front page. Believe it or not, it's actually more work to bold things on the first page then it is to add a post here. ^__^
Still, it was a good idea...
As of 9 p.m. EST, the following categories (now marked in bold) have received 5 or more entries:
Accessory
Action
Animated
Background
Children
Creature
Cute
Female
Funny
Group
Hanken
Joy
Male
Outfit
Rage
Romance
Shocked
Sorrow
Tranquility
There are now 14 categories with less than 5 entries; 7 of these 14 categories have 4 entries.
While we do not want to see categories cut, we also do not want to encourage/pressure participants submitting artwork in the last days to submit their artwork in categories that they might not want to submit in. This is a contest, after all. If a category doesn't make the cut, then that's the way it was meant to be.
In the event categories are eliminated, participants will have until 8 p.m. EST on Friday December 11 to resubmit artwork to other categories.

Reason I brought it up is due to that some collectors can't make their mind up what to enter due to having more then five categories they could participate in. So that would make it easier for them to choose one that didn't have enough entries yet to fill it up and at the same time they were able to make their mind up ^_~
And if I remember right, in the past when there weren't enough entries, they let people enter more then five to fill the categories that didn't have enough, since this is all about fun after all ^_^.
You might want to ask Anime-Beta members for their input about this part if they rather want categories cut or if they want to have a chance to enter more and in the categories that didn't have enough if by the deadline aren't enough entered. Or since half of them have 4 entries to let those categories move along with the amount of only 4 entered. Just an idea. ^_^

In regards to categories with less than five entries, I would like to see the same thing that happened during the sketch awards occur - a category with four entries will be allotted 2 awards while a category with three submissions will have one award given out.
Those participants who submitted artwork into categories with less than 3 entries will be allowed to submit artwork to another category of their choosing.
Right now, as it stands, you have seven categories with four entries. Assuming that there are no additions in the 24 hr span between now and the deadline, that's 28 new submissions.
I don't like the idea of participants submitting more than the 5 pieces of art in the standard categories because it's a difficult thing to decide which members get to have 6 entries and which do not. Unless, of course, you're going to allow all members to submit six items in the standard categories. But then you're going to encroach more on that 1 week buffer that you've allowed yourselves.

True, but on the other hand, submitting in a category that only gets five entries gives you a better chance at winning a prize.Angelic-Lair wrote: While we do not want to see categories cut, we also do not want to encourage/pressure participants submitting artwork in the last days to submit their artwork in categories that they might not want to submit in. Btw, the 12th is a Saturday. Do you mean the 11th?
Kata, allowing participants to go beyond 5 entries to fill struggling categories has been suggested in the past, but I don't think it's ever been implemented. Then again, it's been years since a category had to be cut (worst cel back in 2005, if I recall correctly). Let's hope for those last minute entrants to fill up the ranks! Happens every year.

That sounds good to me, too!cutiebunny wrote:In regards to categories with less than five entries, I would like to see the same thing that happened during the sketch awards occur - a category with four entries will be allotted 2 awards while a category with three submissions will have one award given out.

You have a good point there. I didn't think of that and it sounds like a lot more work. So your idea above sounds pretty good to me.cutiebunny wrote:I don't like the idea of participants submitting more than the 5 pieces of art in the standard categories because it's a difficult thing to decide which members get to have 6 entries and which do not. Hopefully they can figure something out that wont cut a lot of categories due to having less then 5 entries, that would be a shame.

Ah ok! I can't remember either, but I do remember it being brought up at one point a few years ago. lolklet wrote: Kata, allowing participants to go beyond 5 entries to fill struggling categories has been suggested in the past, but I don't think it's ever been implemented. I just hope that all categories fill up since it would be a shame for categories to be cut out of the Anime Beta awards.

Just submitted mine. More than half of the categories I submitted to were not yet 5
Oh well...
I like the practice before where the categories were updated with the total number of entries for each category. I liked it that way not because submitting to a lesser number of entry category increased the chances of winning (although I don't see the harm in giving out more awards) but more because it was a bit more transparent, easier to work with and it was positively exciting (aka more fun).
Here's hoping those categories I submitted to doesn't get axed especially the newer one that won in the polls. Goodluck to everybody. BIFN.
