Fortunally Hentai category is clear enough :D :D :D

Off-topic but... gay males aren't actually male? XD Hopefully this is just a language barrier and you mean "masculine" in appearance. The category was changed to "male" for that reason.. not every male has bulging muscles. ;)

That said, if the "Couples" category has been changed to "Groups", perhaps the DBZ cel should be moved there. The "Romance" category could be changed to "Love" in future awards though, which can incorporate all kinds of love and affection (minus hentai of course) and not just romance.

Ha ha ha, sounds really funny today :D

Well, does not the word male refers to masculine "attributes" while the word masculine refers to a way of "act" (a woman can be masculine, a man can be feminine).

ie. a masculine female :

Male = gender.
Masculine = attributes/features.

Like I said, probably just a language barrier. ;)

I had to do a double take on the DBZ romance cel too. Especially since it won a beta award back when I owned it in the couples section. Frankly there are several DBZ Cels that won previous awards that have been submitted by their new owners. Impossible to keep track of that stuff though. Overall I agree, that cel doesn't belong in the romance section. :roll:

Zerospace:

We'd like to thank you for your input regarding the website. We might not have come across this way, but we actually think the dial-up issue is important to be aware of. We did what we could in the time alloted, and obviously cannot heavily modify the site at this point, but this issue should be kept in mind for future award sites. We have actually looked at other award sites, and some of them have similar loading times to ours, with one having thumbs up to 50k each. 8O

As for the entries:

Every participant had the right to enter a cel in a category as long as it follows the category requirements. Since the Romance definition includes "hugging", the participant was not wrong to submit this cel. We would suggest that you do not vote for it if you don't think it represents the category well. Next year, the category definitions and requirements can be revised to exclude such cels, if that is the consensus.

As for the fact that this particular cel may have won an award in the past, we only have access to 2005 - 2009 Award winners, so we cannot confirm it. We agree with Goldknight that it is impossible to keep track of them all.

With all that said, we will continue ahead with the voting period as planned. The voting form will be active tomorrow morning around 8:00 EST (Eastern Standard Time).

Thanks!

CLAMP (at one of the critical moments of Chobits) has a moment that seems apropos:
I don't know ... maybe there's something wrong with the way I feel.

Why do you feel it's wrong?

... even if we did get married some day ... even if we love each other, it's not like we can have children together.

I can't have children either ... but ... I was happy loving my husband ... and being loved by him. He said to me ... "having children isn't all there is to life, and it's not the reason for loving someone. Happiness can come in different forms and different ways."

"Even if a couple looks a bit odd on the outside ... they can still be happy on the inside. Happiness doesn't come in just one shape."
Nor does, IMHO, "romance." I would be quite resistent, even as a normal straight guy with a wife and a daughter, to restrict this category to a display of affection between a human male and a human female.

I think the issue with the cel at hand is the fact that the characters are father/son and that there is no canon incest between them.

OK, though I didn't get that out of the comments in the thread. Still, I'd say that the image should be judged on its own merits and not rely on the judge's background knowledge of the series. In other words, we shouldn't have to know that the pair embracing are father and son with (such and such) in their minds after (so and so) has just happened. Otherwise, we are judging the scene in the anime and not the artistic quality of the cel.

Angelic Lair, can you please answer my question concerning the Industry Art category entries. I thought the final word was to exclude entries that did not include color of some kind (ie - no B&W art).

What about those of us who took the time to adhere to the guidelines? Yes, nothing can be done now but that doesn't make it right.
Please re-read the thread. It was decided some time after you left the discussion that the Industry Art category would be opened to both color and B&W art.
Please also note that the guidelines do not state color only. You all adhered to them.

Edited to add: The answer to your question is here, on page 7 of the thread.
