I have never sold a cel from my collection and wouldn't ever really want to, but if I had to keep just one it would be this one:

http://honoursd.rubberslug.com/gallery/ ... mID=178136

Reason being it was my ultimate wishlist cel and I don't belive in having more than one of those. Defeats the purpose :)

The time and effort taken to find one of these dwarfs anything else I have ever bought. It was the first cel I settled on and said I was just going to save until one came along that I could get. It took years!

Gogeta 4 cels are so rare it's ridiculous, hardly any were showing up at all when I was buying, it was also the first cel I ever offered on. It was tough to get that cel. Was a time I thought I just wouldn't get it but I did :D

It was more than I could have ever asked for as it was one of only two cels I'd cel which have both character's in the shot. A true dream.

I remember offering on the cel, and the seller coming back to me and saying if you can make that x amount the cel is yours.

It was great to here that and when the agreed price was met I could not send the e-mail fast enough LOL.

Awesome question Sensei and one that like alot of folkes I can think of alot of cels like most of my NS collection for instance that I wouldn't take anything less then Venus's arms for.

To choose one though it would have to be this one. It was one of my first Akira cels, from a key moment in the film and is also since it's a pan cel of a static image therefore irreplacable. It's odd because the main focus of the image is of someone of relativly little importance (though Takashi is somewhat more important). Though why I say it's a key moment of the movie is because at the time (1988) people in the West or at least in England weren't so used to anime, and to see what follows when the guy gets machine gunned really brings home the fact you're not merely watching a 'cartoon'.

Yes I think that much of anime was marketed on its violence for a while there.

Which is why back in the day if you were seen browsing it was considered a novelty and you'd get lots of creepy older guys coming up to you trying to strike up a conversation about the scenes in Ninja Scroll and asking you if you'd like to come back to their place to watch "Overfiend" with a leering smirk. Or maybe that was just for me  . Anyway I remember for a while the scene was a bit seedy for us back in the old days. Lol thankfully now it's considered more universal and less of a boys' club thing ^^.

Thinking on the question, I can't pick just one thing I'd keep forever... hm...

10 years of research, whole family collected $400 to arrange it for my 30th birthday. So this is a matter of respect, there's a voice in my head " Thou shall not sell !! " :D

I have approximately 20 cels in my collection that I would not ever sell. Well, at least that number. I've had offers on several of them, but I don't even entertain them.

The one that most comes to mind is a rilezu from Ai Yori Aoshi:

It's not going anywhere.

Here is my cel that will never leave me "Inuyasha"
http://massacristmanslayer.rubberslug.c ... mID=297933

The reasons why is my first cel to start my hobby of cel collection plus Inuyasha is upside down in the cel. One day I will post him the right way up how the cel should be.

I'd like to think that there are a few items I wouldn't sell even at extreme financial burden, but realistically I can't say (thankfully I've never been in a situation where it was necessary :^^: ).
But if I found out I had to sell off my entire collection with the exception of one piece I would probably keep this guy:

http://requiem.rubberslug.com/gallery/i ... mID=169063
My chibi Kyo from Fruits Basket

Which is funny because I don't even consider it necessarily my favorite piece (not that I don't love it).
If I had to say why? Probably because it's my favorite piece from the series and if I did sell it, it's likely I wouldn't find anything near as nice again. Does that make sense? It's not my favorite piece but to me it's my most irreplaceable piece :P

This is such a difficult question to answer, and not because of having to choose between cels that I can't imagine selling ---- most of us have at least a couple of cels we can't believe our fortune to find, and know we can't replace ---- but because it comes to being honest with myself about to which one I have the most emotional attachment. While it seems wrong to leave out of consideration so many cels of much higher value, it really comes down to two cels for me. Even though I had considered the Nausicaa cel the ultimate "get" from any of the anime I watch, my heart is with the Miyu shown on my gallery front page. I looked at this in a private collection at the same time I was trying to decide if I should buy my first cel, and it was the one that pushed me over the edge and let me know that real, quality art was actually out there instead of just the studios throwaways that we felt lucky to have a chance at (things have certainly changed since then, judging by all of these wonderful galleries). It took about three years, and a little luck before I had the cel, even though I was given the douga on the day I first saw it.

My collection is relatively new, but if there is one thing I would never part w/ its definitely this one. Every time I take a look at my portfolio I always find myself staring at this much longer than anything else. The shock of owning this gorgeous sketch hasn't left me yet I think :P

I haven't updated my gallery in ages... just laziness I guess. There is one piece, though, that I haven't displayed yet that I am extremely fond of.
I will say that after I get it back (it's currently being exhibited at The Cartoon Art Museum of San Francisco) I am finally going to scan it proper and
dust off the ol' gallery and give it a face-lift. In the meantime, I will offer a peek of it from a horrible pic I took for insurance purposes...

I'm still a HUGE Gundam Wing fan. While it would be hard to part with any of them, probably the hardest would be Wing Gundam in bird mode. It's only seen in bird mode for a very short time while entering the atmosphere.

Image

Second would be Naraku's eye from Inuyasha. It's a 4 cell setup.

Image

Last is a background without a cel. This background is from Cowboy Bebop the movie. There is a scene where Jet is talking to an old friend while a black and white western is playing on the big theater screen. This is the background for the movie and it amazingly detailed. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

transmet, I remember that cel when it was featured on Mandarake auctions several years back. Absolutely AWESOME! In fact, I am planning a trip to the CAM in SF this weekend. Never been there before.
So, as far as things never going to sell, I am still in the process of having a professional background made for my newest cel. So, for now, it will be this cel:

Strangely enough, I actually know the answer to this question without even thinking about it for too long. I would never want to give up my Magic Knight Rayearth 2nd Opening setup of Lantis and Primera which came to me as two seperate purchases.

http://drakonia.rubberslug.com/gallery/ ... mID=132875

However, if I ever found a cel of Lantis in Hikaru's locket, which is also from the opening, only that particular cel could ever take this one's coveted spot.
