Thanks !
So Kern county is the limit.
Now another high scholar question, what state owns this orange part ?
I'm a bit lost, as this is not part of the map of Maryland...

I lived in GA, VA, NJ, NY and crossed SC, NC, DC, but I'm unfortunaly not a specialist from US geography due to the short lifetime I spent there...
So any idea from what state this orange colored part is ?

In order to reduce the county list due to state size, it appears that there are some regional name. Do I miss one or there are only 3 regions ?
- Panhandle Texas
- Northern Texas
- Southern Texas
Thanks a lot.

That's what's called the Delmarva peninsula, because it's owned by three states: DELaware, MARyland, and VirginiA. (VA is the common abbreviation for "Virginia."). Also known as "The Eastern Shore" (of the Chesapeake Bay, which is the body of water you see to the left).iceman57 wrote:Great, I tought first that this was maybe part of Delaware.Sky Rat wrote:That's part of Virginia.
I just call my little corner of it "Cephiro" because it's so distant from anywhere I've ever known before, and pleasant and magical in its own way.
I think the Delmarva peninsula is much bigger than the orange fragment that Iceman was pointing out. It looks like it starts below Wicomico and Somerset counties, which is the end of Maryland.sensei wrote:That's what's called the Delmarva peninsula, because it's owned by three states: DELaware, MARyland, and VirginiA. It looks to me like it only included Accomac and Northhampton, both are in Virigina.
I don't think it touched any of Delaware

Texas is split into East Texas, West Texas, Panhandle, Midland, etc.

Thanks to Sky Rat & Sensei about peninsula information.
That explains why I was lost with this part on the map.
Like wih California, it appears that those regions (correct name ?) are not officially monitored by Census.
How can I find an accurate list for Texas ?... (in Wikipedia this is wrote "for east texas you may or not count xxx county, means that borders are not official ?)
Something like "Panhandle = county list" for all regions would be great.

Is there any county list available in Census ? I identified counties name level but not those regions.Goldknight wrote:Texas is split into East Texas, West Texas, Panhandle, Midland, etc.

This might be useful. The legend says "We've grouped these counties into the 24 regions used by local government councils and regional planning commisisions." If you click on the map or on the list of regions, you get taken to a more detailed map, with a list of counties below.
Twenty-four regions is a lot, but after all Texas was a sovereign nation before it agreed to annex the other states, as Texans never fail to remind non-Texans. The theme park "Six Flags" was founded there and reflects the various national identities the place has had over history (Spanish, French, Mexican, Texan, Confederacy, United States).
Too many chiggers, though. Walk through a field of Texas blue bonnets and you'll know it for weeks.

24 regions, wow, and is there any upper level between state and those 24 regions ?
Here is what I got on Wikipedia to base my previous note about big regions :
Consequently are they "official" region and more "flexible" regions depending on local specificities ?
