I aplaud Hatoyama's actions. He's stepping down because he's incited a lot of anger amongst many Japanese for failing to keep his promise of relocating the US base in Okinawa. Although, I had read yesterday on the BBC website that Japan & the US did reach an agreement & that the base would be relocating to a more remote area of Okinawa.
I wish politicians in the US were more willing to take accountability for their fallacies by stepping down or donating their paycheck to a charitable organization.

The agreement you talk is the same of the previous one of 2006 established by the previous government
Hatoyama and especially okinawa population wanted a relocation outside Japan but US didn't accept that....for the first time after decades of "yes", Japaneses tried to said "no".
Hatoyama was not strong enough and the consequences got down this morning...and maybe further on next July for elections

I thought his wife was one of the most interesting people related to Japanese politics in a long time. I think I'm going to buy her English-language cookbook.
Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.
