What do you think of these current shows?

Post by Keropi »

Could anyone tell me what they think of these anime if anyone is watching these:

Durarara
Full Metal Alchemist
Heroman
House of Five Leaves
Ikkitousen Xtreme Xecutor
K-ON season 2
Rainbow
Seikon no Qwaser
Shin Koihime Musou - Otome Tairan
Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru

Seems like just about everyone I know has bailed out of watching anything lately. So I've been curious as to what people think of how these anime have been progressing. I have not heard any comments on these shows for some time.

I haven't kept up with any of these anime and prefer hearing from people that I know instead of reading random comments from random posters. :D

(raises hand sheepishly) I kinda...watch...Heroman. I'm a few episodes behind, though. I'm not pushing myself to watch more, probably because I was expecting more from the show.

Working!! isn't on your list either....hmm..I watch that one too. Not a great anime, but, midly amusing(or at least, amusing when watched after a double shift).

The only ones on your list that I've been watching, are Ikkitousen and K-On S2.

Ikkitousen is pretty much the same old, same old. Torn clothing, with plenty of bare breasts. I didn't mind the story this time (which seems to have a better plot than the last couple IMO) and there are plenty of fight scenes this series. I also found the animation to be very nice. But I'm a bit biased - cause I'm a sucker for Ikkitousen :p

K-On S2, is basically the same as the first season so far in my opinion. there are episodes that really stand out for me (I found ep 5 hilarious!) but if you didn't like the first season - chances are you probably won't like the second.

Durarara's the only one I've kept up with lately. I love the progression of the story thus far with what's going on with the three main protagonist's but I'm starting to wonder if it's going to lead up to a happy ending :P Though with this series I can honestly say it's the diversity in the cast of characters that keeps me watching (for the most part they're just a fun bunch :D ).

I still watch House of Five Leaves on and off but I jump between being really interested in the story and then bored by a lack of plot developement, so while I still like it I'm falling behind in it :^^:

and Uragiri wa Boku I stopped at the beginning, I may try to watch it again later, but I couldn't really stay interested X|

What did they do in the second season? Did they have a goal?

theres no way anyone could bailout on full metal alchemist, the show is extremely solid with Plenty of actions! the story is very through with depth but not confusing at all compared to the one made years back, after 10ish eps it just took on a completely different route and every ep counts with no filler whatsoever(except for 3 ovas, alright I didn't read manga but it sure as heck feels that way). really awesome anime, and I've made a habit of following the weekly release alongside naruto, bleach and one piece, its at the end of climax right now and I'd definitely say this is the prime anime of the season.

Could anyone tell me what they think of these anime if anyone is watching these:
Durarara - yes, I really enjoy this one...my daughter recommended it and I have kept up with it better than she has. There is so much going on in this series, I'm sure I will watch it again to catch more of it the second time around *third for some episodes*. As for your question, Keorpi,
they have shown the head so you know who has it, but Celty has not found it yet
Heroman - I watched a few episodes, but dropped it. I doubt I will go back to it.

House of Five Leaves - I'm curious who is watching this one as well.

Rainbow - watched the first episode since it is on Funimation's site. Looks like it could be interesting, but violent.

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru - can't resist the bishies in this one! :) The storyline is ok, but is very slow.

Series I'm watch that weren't mentioned are:

Ookiku Furikabutte season 2 - baseball anime - I actually re-watched season one for this one after starting season 2 b/c I couldn't remember enough of the 1st season. I like sport anime - this one included - both seasons. It has some pretty funny moments. It focuses a high school baseball team during a summer tournament. During the games the catcher's thoughts are key to the storyline along with how the guys work together as a team.

Hakuoki - see separate thread

Giant Killing - another sports anime - soccer. The first time I started this one, it didn't appeal to me and I didn't finish the first episode. I started it again and couldn't find what it was that kept me from watching it the first time. I watched the 11 episodes in one day.

Kaichou wo Maid - still watching this one as well. It reminds me of Special A.

Working - have kept up with this one as well. It's been focusing on Takanashi and Inami...
yes, she still hits him but not as much. He is trying to help her get better. There is a relationship trying to form, whether it will, well...I don't know. Anime tends to not follow through in that area. They showed an episode why she hits men.
I wish they would show more of some of the other character who work at the diner.

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou - still watching, but not sure why. It could have been so much better.

Durarara -> Dropped it after 4-5 episodes. Series didn't seem to be going anywhere and was very slow paced.

Full Metal Alchemist -> Ended up dropping it after watching quite a big bunch of episodes. Didn't like where the plot was going.

Heroman -> Fulminantly dropped. Couldn't even finish the first episode.

House of Five Leaves -> Still watching it. Plot seems interesting even it's an slow paced theme.

Ikkitousen Xtreme Xecutor -> Dropped the previous incarnations of the series. Didn't bother to try this one.

K-ON season 2 -> Watched first episode and dropped it because i didn't want more of the same thing. Sure, the characters are cute and all, but that's not enough to keep wathing it.

Rainbow -> Still watching it. Hope the poor guys get rid of that sadistic doctor at the end.

Seikon no Qwaser -> Extremely silly fanservice = fulminant drop.

Shin Koihime Musou - Otome Tairan -> After dropping the revious series didn't even try this one.

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru -> Watching it..... But if doesn't become any more interesting i'll drop it in a few more episodes.

For Durarara, the first 6 or 7 episodes are character introductions and development. In the first episodes it does seem like a unique series with no really plot. The storyline doesn't start to surface until about episode 9 or 10 and then it keeps you guessing. There is really a lot going on in this anime, but b/c it involves around 8 to 10 of the characters it takes awhile for it show up. Nornally, I watch 3 episodes before I give up on a series, this one you have to get to at least episode 7.

On FMA, I kept comparing it to the first series and couldn't get past the difference in artwork and storyline even though I know it follows the manga. I may try to watch it again at some point.

So the stories of Durarara kind of comes together like Pulp Fiction (or the Nekoneko Giniro game)? That's good to hear. I guess I needed more patience with that show.

Thanks for answering my questions guys! I appreciate it. :)

I have been watching Rainbow the last couple of days on FUNimation's website which has a very dark storyline to say the least, but still feel compelled to continue watching to find out what happens with the 6 juveniles who end up in the same hold in the reformatory with An-chan, a guy who is about to get out, but knows too much about the doctor and guard. Some scenes have been hard to watch, but it has a solid storyline.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - HATE IT! HATE IT!! HATE IT!!! I'm watching it just to see where it goes but I will not own anything from it. I hate what the animation looks like. I hate the way the story is going. It's funny because I love the first FMA so much. But there's something to say about having consquences to your actions, which Brotherhood doesn't have that moral.

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru - LOVE IT! LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!! Unfortunately, the subs are coming out very slowly. It's okay though because I have plenty of other anime to watch in the meantime. :^^:

Wow... all the surprisingly negative feedback on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. O.O I just had to say something positive for it. :^^:

I actually enjoy the series much, I'm currently watching it right now, and I enjoyed the first series, minus the ending. I think the characters are quite deeper & more diverse in this version, once you get past the first 10 episodes of recap material; that is... if you watched the first series. If you didn't, I can see where it seems to run too fast at times. Things can be confusing, but they get explained later on. The plot is at times dark, but it's also full of lighthearted and humorous moments also. I didn't see a noticable chance in graphics and I was quite pleased the Voice Actor's stayed the same.

Personally though, I enjoy it; it's one of my top favorite series. I think it should atleast be given a fair try. ^.^

It's nice to hear someone is enjoying Brotherhood. However, the animation is majorly different. First, the coloring is different. If you notice, the original series had vibrant colors. Brotherhood has more muted colors and darker earth tones. Some people like that but it's a turn off for me. Second, the original has more defined sharp shapes in the drawings of the characters. Brotherhood is more soft and rounded. Some people like that but for me it looks like the animators were lazy. Roy Mustang just looks fat, which should never be the case since he's in the military and they have strict rules about that.

Finally, the humor in Brotherhood is very annoying to me. Full Metal Alchemist is not a light-hearted comedy. Sure, the occassional joke will help lighten any intense scene but Brotherhood has way too many of them. The SD scenes got old very quickly. I'm just grateful there are only 2 episodes left before it's over. I laugh at how terrible it's doing in the US market. The DVDs are on sale for half price and the ratings have tanked.
