Have you ever seen fancels of one of your cels?

I was looking through Nadesico cels on Rubberslug just now when i noticed a fancel of the exact image of which i own the original. The fancel is really poorly made, but I thought it was pretty amusing to see that someone else has an appreciation for that particular snapshot from the series.

It occurs to me that this sort of thing must be fairly common with some of the really desirable scenes from popular anime, so i'm curious to see if you guys have ever encountered fancels which were based on an original that you own.

I seen a colored sketch that was made from my Tokyo Underground production sketch, but that's the only one I know of.

That sketch used to show up on Google image search until I adjusted so that it wouldn't show. That sketch has three and a half times the number of hits as my second place item.

It was kind of interesting when I seen it though. It also showed up on Google Images. I guess she just wanted a decent image to base her sketch off of.

I have seen a lot of fancels (and t-shirts, etc) of my Inuyasha cels, especially the Inuyasha X Kikyo cel shortly after I got that one a few years back.

Yes I have seen a fancel of my TV Tasuki, holding a rope and crying, cel. It doesn't look too bad... But I have the real one

Yes, I realized she does base them on screencaps as are rilezu cels...I hope I didn't imply it bothers me she made the same image as a fan cel. It doesn't. What I wanted to say is I don't know if she realizes I have the riliezu of that screencap.

I was just pointing out specific examples I knew about.

I've had fan sketches made from a Chibimoon cel that I own. The artist and/or current owner listed the item as authentic on E-bay, with an incorrect sequence number.

I don't mind of people make fan cels/sketches of items I own. It's flattering to know that someone else appreciates items that I own.

I just don't like it when they claim that it's real & attempt to sell it.

There are a few fan cels on RS that match cels I own. I have always assumed they were copied from the screen captures or other artwork since my gallery is a bit off the beaten path. It's nice to see that other people like those images too.

I didn't realize you owned that rilezu, AO. It is such a pretty, pretty shot. And your rilezu is gorgeous. As Rei said, I base all my fancels on screencaps. With one small exception ... If I own the sketch, then I might use my sketch for the lines and the cap for the coloring.

I know you said it didn't bother you that I had made a fancel of the same shot, and I am glad of that. I would never want to offend anyone who owned a particular cel or sketch.

I just wanted to weigh in here to say that -- if it did bother you, feel free to contact me about it. I would be happy to take the image out of my gallery, if that was the case.

The same goes for anyone else. This might happen again, and I don't want to step on any toes. I'm a total newb at making these, and I just do it for fun. But I don't check galleries before deciding to paint an image. I just find a screen cap I like and go for it. So any duplication is accidental on my part.

There is one person here on Beta who has a fancel of a genga I own. I admit it does kind of bug me. However, since I'm unwilling to show my genga for various reasons (thus I pretty much KNOW the fancel was made from a screen cap), I've never said anything. If I suspected someone had made a fancel from a scan of mine, either cel or genga, I would be pretty irritated about it and would definitely speak with them.

There's a fancel of a cel I've had about 10 years on ebay right now. At least they had the decency to flip the image. I use to make large scans available, but now I intentinonally keep my public gallery images small.
