Must be in responce to Sensei's title change.
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

I didn't think the word had become that popular. I'm surprised they did that.

I ran across it a number of times, mostly on web pages, before finally reading all of Zielenziger's Shutting out the Sun, which popularized the term in the West. It certainly has a memorable feel to it, which makes it fit the phenomenon and the victim better than "social misfit," the best translation.

Similarly, Lafcadio Hearn's appropriation of "tsunami" for what the West called "tidal waves" has over time been a better fit for the phenomenon, which is not really a humongous single wave but more of a slopping over of water on one side of a bowl. (A lot of water...)

Yeah, it must have been used a lot in academic circles. :D

Although it makes me wonder how they are pronouncing it. They might be saying something like:

heh-kee-kuh-moh-ray

:topic

I "learned a new word a couple of days ago.

Mendokusai:

My ears always thought they said something like:

Mendo-roku-sai

until I looked it up.
