A seemingly mundane topic has turned out to be interesting! I enjoyed reading everyone's post.

Today, like many others to come, is a busy day. My schedule is packed all the way to January......projects after projects. It doesn't help that my interns needs me to babysit them. Luckily my next exhibition is going to be fun, although there isn't much time to prepare.

On the plus side, I had gyoza and green tea for lunch....and chocolate biscuits shaped like ice-cream cones for tea.

Still waiting for lunch time, but cha-sui bau's (bbq pork buns) are looking good right now. I am hosting a Japanese guest from Koshi-ken in Shikoku (the 4th of the large islands that comprise Japan) as part of the Japanese-American Summit here is San Francisco. The purpose of the summit is to foster Japanese-American cultural exchange at the personal level. It is the 150th Anniversary of the Kanrin Maru embassy (1st Japanese government visit to the US just after the California Gold Rush) and there are about 250 Japanese vistors visiting San Francisco and participating in home-stay visits with several families in the Bay Area. My guest is the Kochi site coordinator for the 2011 Summit in Kochi and works with the prefectural government (the exchange site alternates between Japan and the US each year and is partially sponsored by the Japanese Foreign Ministry), so next years summit will be in Kochi, Japan. Since my guest does not speak much English, I'm getting a lot of practice with my rusty Nihongo. If any Betarians are interested in a Japanese home-stay trip next year, email me and I can give you some information when it is available. Currently, the group is out touring San Francisco and I hope having a good time.
