1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.

It all got organized and re-bagged this year.

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.

The amount of model sheet sets that I have added to my gallery.

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?

I was able to buy this Inuyasha and Kagome wishlist cel from a fellow collector here on AB (without giving up a kidney):

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

I am having trouble finding production art from a lot of series/features that I collect from. There are a few sections in my gallery that I have been consistently adding to and there are some that have been neglected because of a lack of art on the market. I am concerned that everything is drying up. Also, after I graduate and start paying back my student loans this summer I am going to have no money to spend on this hobby.

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.

Easy. I want to find Inspector Gadget and Sonic the Hedgehog production art to add to my gallery. These are the two series I will be focusing on in 2011. Also I want to insure my collection this year.

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?

I did, actually. I organized my cel collection and took inventory of everything. Now I have a neat little binder that lists everything in my collection and all of the needed info. Before I go back to school I am going analyze the stats to get a better idea of my collecting habits.

Happy New Year Everyone! :cheers

Mmmmm ... I think I'm going to skip the New Year's diet and resolve to be more like toonybabe in 2011.

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

The prices never seem to go down, even though there was more
artwork readily available.

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.

Never get into another large payment plan - especially in yen.

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?

No resolution, but if I had one, I probably stuck to it pretty well.

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.

Being able to expand pretty much 90% of my gallery since last year. But I am most happy that my Flame of Recca section grew so wonderfully. I was surprised by how many wishlists I found this year...

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.

I got to add production artwork from Ookiku Furikabutte which I never thought I would find.

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?

Gosh, I acquired so many pieces this year I can only say that I may have a slight bias towards my Flame of Recca cels only because it's the one series in which I focus the most energy in collecting.

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

Well since its only been a year when I started collecting, I may have to stop/postpone for a long period of time because I'm going to dental school soon. Which sucks big time!! :l

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.

Try to buy as many pieces that I can before I leave to dental school in August X|

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?

Didn't make one, but if I had one I would definitely try to be more selective in the pieces I buy rather than buying everything all at once due to excitement hehe.

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.

Acquiring not 1 not 2 but 3 shot-for-shot dream sketches
from a cg show that's been torched.
Unfortunately, I can't display them >_<;;

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.

Just the above.

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?

An adorable shot of Shampoo flirting.
I fought tooth and nail for it and though it got
real ugly price-wise, it was worth it. *_*

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

Same as always, lots of asshats, special snowflakes,
and jelly ppl. They seem to multiple every year
like caged hormonal rabbits.

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.

This one will hurt.. but I'm limiting myself to
only 4 winning auctions.
Trying to save money for an overseas vacation.
>_<;;

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?

I didn't make a resolution for 2009 or 2010, but I did
stick to my old 2008 goal of 1 quality piece a
month as opposed to many.

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.

Last year I made the decision to concentrate more on setting-up & establishing my business, as such I was able to slow-down my rate of purchases considerably and concentrate more on the "higher quality"/higher priced cels. Halfway through the year I discovered and developed the willpower to not participate in quite a few auctions that I normally would have dived into a year earlier.

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.

That even with everything going-on, I was able to update my online gallery each quarter as well as acquiring a mixture of new high-end cels.

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?

Oh jeez.......there are three that come to mind straight away, not sure if I can knock it down to just one?! The Nausicaa cel due to it being such a beautiful, clear shot of Nausicaa & Teto together, being able to pick-up any Nausicaa cel is an achievement.
The chibi Akito & Yurika cel which was featured in the Beta Awards, mostly due to it simply being a stunning piece of artwork in itself as well depicting & emboding a pivotal relationship from the series.
And lastly the 'naked' Saber Rilezu, putting that down in the "I never thought I would ever own that.............ever" category.

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

There seems to be quite a few people deciding to move on from cel collecting and not enough newbie's to fill the gap/void left by there departure. As a result, the community feels.......smaller?

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.

Continuing to Enjoy as well as Learn all that I can from what this hobby provides.

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?

I do not think I had one........?

2011 cel and sketch resolution

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.

It got reorganized by character and series in my cel books; and, my five year-old nephew flipped through it and wanted to know who my heroines were and if he could watch them too. (I said he should stick to Spiderman and let Sailor Moon save the world at night when he’s asleep. He said, “ok!â€

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.

That we were able to add some very nice additions this year.

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.

That I reached the 40 mark of Ranma 1/2 cel of Akane with her hair long.

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?

I have 2 pieces that we are extreamly happy to have gotten.
1st is a lithograph from Crest of the Stars http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_ ... mID=310199
and 2nd is a cel from the last sequence of her hair being long before it gets cut.
http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_ ... mID=314861

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

That the yen to dollar rate is making it hard to not over pay.

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.

Like last year I intend to keep my purchases to better cels and art and not give in to impulse buys as much.

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?

Yes , I did buy less but actually spent more than 2009

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.

Pretty much the same as last year. I acquired some great pieces, particularly lucky with my Disney collection.

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.

Finding an original Lady and Tramp Bella Norte cel which came with the original paperwork from 1955!!

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?

See above (Bella Norte cel). I found it at a (relatively speaking) great deal in absolutely wonderful condition.

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.

Everything costs money!! So much money! And you have to be careful not to get cheated into buying fakes.

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.

Same as 2010. Find cels that I absolutely LOVE and to not spend on a whim.

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?

Yep. I am proud to say I bought only 1 cel last year and it was an amazing cel!

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection. The best thing we did this year was organize our Kamen no Maid Guy collection. We have hundreds and hundreds of sketches from this show and we finally got around to filing them all away. :)

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection. It isn't related to our collection, but in a surprising turn of events, we ended up organizing the Beta awards again. :P

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010? We were able to buy so many wonderful pieces this year... it's impossible to pick just one. Some of our favourites include a Nova OP cel from Magic Knight Rayearth and a Doctor Marilyn cel from Marine A Go-Go.

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience. Our biggest concern is that the shows we collect from will continue to be active. It's been difficult seeing so many nice pieces from so many of our favourite shows all at the same time. That and the exchange rate. X|

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011. Buy less (notice we didn't say spend less). Make fewer impulse buys. Prioritize.

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010? No. No we didn't. We thought the supply of artwork would magically dry up... it did not.

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.
The addition of a lot of original art pieces.

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.
Comic art updates overshadowed cel updates.

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?
Cel wise, nothing. In terms of original art, I can say I have had a good year in that area and I love all my acquired pieces.

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.
Lack of anything new. CG isnt cutting it for me and cels of series I want to continue collecting from I can never find anything.

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.
Continue with last year's resolution, buy less, and only buy with cash (no credit)

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?
Yes

1. The best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection.
I added a few choice RK pieces and more Shinsengumi artwork! I also went into a long term deal in 2010 for one of my ultimate wishlist cel which I won't see till spring of 2011. Yay!

2. The most surprising thing that has happened to your gallery/collection.
I have stopped updating my gallery. Not because I lost interest but I have a lot going on.

3. What art piece are you most proud of acquiring in 2010?
Yellow eyed Battousai and the flashback Saitou cel

4. Thing that concerns you about your collecting experience.
Although I got some very nice RK pieces some of them were really expensive... Plus although I keep looking the only art I find they don't really add roundness to the collection so I don't buy. I'm also concerned about the attitude of a few collectors, my list of people not to deal with has doubled which is sad.

5. A cel/sketch-related resolution for 2011.
I won't complain anymore that there's no real good pieces to add to my collection even if I am willing to pay. Need to accept the reality that most pieces out there are the same old ones other collectors just want to cull. Maybe I won't be so disappointed.

6. Did you stay true to your cel/sketch-related resolution posted in 2010?
Yes absolutely.
