Most Popular CG and Anime Series being posted on RS

Post by ginga123 »

What is it? (Out of general curiousity and b/c I actually have a day off today to come and chill for a lil bit. :) ) What do you think it should be?? What series would you love see more of posted from the community that you feel doesn't get the attention it deserves?

Most common CG series? I don't know. Maybe Naruto or Bleach?

Not sure about your second question. I'd have to think about that one. There a lot of sketches not posted on RS.

Hmm for anime cels, it seems I see Sailor Moon posted/uploaded
more than any other series.
For cg, I'd say Naruto. Although, like Keropi mentioned, Bleach is pretty
popular choice too.

I'd love to see more cels from Creamy Mami and Gunsmith cats posted up!
They are really lovely and detailed to look at.
For sketches, easily any of the newer ones which seem near impossible
to find (e.g. Black Lagoon, DN, NHK, Durarara!, HOTD, Gosick etc)

I'd love to see more artwork posted from the shows. I rarely ever see anything from these:

Computer Colored:

Daughter of Twenty Faces
Kanon
KimiNozo
Polyphonica Crimson S
School Days
Shikabane Hime
Soukou no Strain
Xamdou
Zegapain

Cels:

Campus ----------------------------------only seen one cel from it in eight years
Combustible Campus Guardress-------only seen about 23 cels from it in 13 years
Sentimental Journey -------------------hard to see the best cels from it when one person wins the auctions 89% of the time over a 11+ year period
Seraphim Call

Too bad some shows are so difficult to ever see. :(

The most prevelant CG artwork is from Naruto and Bleach, while Dragonball, Sailor Moon and Inuyasha are the most popular cel uploads. It makes sense, since all of these series were (are) running long enough to generate lots of artwork. And with a worldwide fanbase, there's always groups of collectors who will continue to go after whatever items appear on the market. When most of the cel shows were still in production, artwork collecting wasn't as much as a hobby as it is now, and most studios gave out their cels as freebies simply to be rid of them. For those that took care of these items, today, they're valuable.

Some series are far more difficult to find, either due to studios destroying the artwork, animator requests (some character designers are known to keep all OP/ED artwork), those will studio connections having bought out the supply or the supply, being small, has a dedicated fanbase and a pocketbook to match that dedication.

I don't know what I'd like to see...maybe artwork from series that I collect? It would be nice to know that I'm not the only fan who likes a particular anime.

Just from my random glances at RS updates, I'd add that Saint Seiya and Hotoko no Ken are also very popular uploads from European collectors. The increasing internationalism of the RS community has also made a number of series visible that were very important in European culture, due to the availability of dubbed versions. Among these are Heidi, Girl of the Alps and Marco, aka 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother for both of which a young and ambitious Hayao Miyazaki served as scenic designer and layout supervisor.

(At a children's lit. scholarly meeting, at least two speakers noted that most non-English-speaking fans of Heidi watched the anime before they read the book. Marco has also proved enormously popular in both Hebrew and Arabic dubs, not to mention numerous Latin American countries, thanks to its Argentinian setting and a good Spanish version. Neither is available in an English version, except that a mash-up of the series into an English-dubbed VHS movie was briefly available in 1985, says Wikipedia. So despite their importance, both series seem overlooked by North American and English collectors.)

It would be interesting to see what series are hot among Japanese collectors. Obviously the Ghibli canon, plus Future Boy Conan, but the Space Battleship Yamato and Macross cycles seem to attract high prices on Mandarake, especially the BWA. (Cels from the Do You Remember Love Movie,, one of the first anime features I watched, seem to always go very high, especially if they contain Lynn Minmay, the lead vocalist for the mecha pilots.)
