Thanks, JWR!

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
I would think that, since iceman57 has volunteered to run the contest this time and no one expressed a written objection to that, it should be up to him how to arrange the contest mechanisms, as has been the case in all of the past contests. From the start, he has been clear about how he intended to do things.

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
Thank you, klet & JWR.
I appreciate you guys taking the time to ask me.
Given that there is someone out there with the current site source code who probably doesn't like me very much at this point, I feel it is prudent to repair the "holes" in the code before it is used again. I don't like the thought of someone sabotaging a contest for the sake of revenge, but I'd rather not even tempt anyone to try anything. I already have a plan of how to fix the problem, but I need the time to actually implement it. I held off on actually fixing it, because I wasn't sure if I ever would want to after the last contest ended so horrifically.
So I guess the answer is ... maybe, but I'd prefer if you guys used something else this time around, as I would rather not work under the gun during the holiday season.
------------------
Related to the site, but not this contest particularly: I am willing to work on what would be the future version of the site with the input & assistance of Anime Beta members. What I mean is: I'd be willing to re-develop it with what you guys want in mind. If this is something you all would like to see happen, speak up. Otherwise, I'm probably going to let this thing die, as it has caused me enough headaches already.

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
I think that's a fair and constructive reply. Let's go on with the RS-based event in the short run, knowing that it will probably be less efficient this time around for reasons we all know. AND let's look ahead to the future and help zerospace with some suggestions that will allow for a roll-out of the new improved contest format in 2012.
And let's keep in mind the rationale, which is not to identify the "best" cels or the "best" collectors, but simply to provide an intense sharing of eyeworthy images, all of which are winners in their own ways.

Well said Sensei!
Sounds like a decent plan of action.
Those participants who wish to submit pieces this year should be mindful of not leaving their submissions to the last day/last moment due to RS's little 'quirks' which we have all have had to deal with sometimes.

Currently I had nothing personally against you.
If so i have to say that.
I'm not interested in killing the fun for the Beta members in the name of revenge.
I will not participate in this event with entries or vote.
What happened around the Sketch award is a different story and has nothing to do with this event.
For me this story is closed and booked as lesson learned.
You can use and re-write the code i gave you and that i used to block the backdoor access.
The code needs to be re-written since it also blocks the thumbs showing up.
Excuse my english but after reading that i'm *****************
I just calmed down a while ago. >,<

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
So the beta community decided for the old school RS system till a better soft is available. Poll then over, a poll will be reopen in 2012 for the sketch award OS management.
Each event is independantly managed and competition open "to any Beta Board member". Then, at my COO side, any member can play the fun of competition and I just don't care about animosity between one against another, that's part of sport competition too to have teams, fans and various opinions.

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
Didn't expect it to start tomorrow already. Well it's no problem for me, but I can imagine people would need some time to pick their entries.
If you could let me know in a pm how I can get access to the entries and the gallery I can help uploading as promised.
It might be a good idea to upload everything "Hidden from public" during the next week and set everything to "Visible" once the submitting period is over.
You won't need to use a random number generator, RS already gives images a random name.
Maybe you could post everything you said in the first post with a link to the gallery. Also we're still missing contest rules and a category list with explanations.

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
I do think that people do appreciate to have awards before the 15th of december, consequently the schedule is setted up back from this deadline.Yupa wrote:Didn't expect it to start tomorrow already. Well it's no problem for me, but I can imagine people would need some time to pick their entries.
Start the contest in October would have allowed a longer timeline, well, this is a bit handicraft this year with both structure and timing, just need to move on.
Every staff member will get the gallery access code.Yupa wrote:If you could let me know in a pm how I can get access to the entries and the gallery I can help uploading as promised.
Ain't a "good idea", this is an excellent ideaYupa wrote:It might be a good idea to upload everything "Hidden from public" during the next week and set everything to "Visible" once the submitting period is over.

Great new, so randomiser would be for picture position in the categories' galleries.Yupa wrote:You won't need to use a random number generator, RS already gives images a random name.
Done.Yupa wrote:Maybe you could post everything you said in the first post with a link to the gallery.
I need to copy paste the current standards and to link it directly on the gallery.Yupa wrote:Also we're still missing contest rules and a category list with explanations.

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
Since you're from France, allow me to explain that this is terrible timing for Americans. This year, Thanksgiving falls on November 24th; it is one of our largest holidays and celebrations usually take up the entire weekend. Many people will be visiting family and may not have internet access, or have time for this.iceman57 wrote:23 Nov. - 27 Nov. Vote submission

I realize "not everyone" on A-B is American, but the majority are. This seems like a good way to have a bad turn-out.
Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
So how do we solve this? Here's a suggestion:
11 Nov. - 2 Dec. Entry submissions. This would give you three weeks of submitting entries.
3 - 6 Dec. Controls of resubmitted entries
7- 13 Dec. Vote submission
14 - 16 Dec. Vote counting & controls
17 Dec. Trophies design.
18 Dec. Public results.
This way the Awards would end just before the holidays. Or we could use the same schedule as last year:
November 29 to December 5: Submit Entries
December 6 to December 12: Viewing Period
December 13 to December 19: Voting Period
Winners announced: December 30

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
I'm not sure if i'll be able to submit anything, but don't seem to find the rules anywhere. Are we using the same as last year? It would be nice to find the rules on the first post, specially the number of entries, file size, maximum witdh/heigth etc...

Re: 2011 Annual Cel contest
As wrote up, goal is to not overpass the mid-december period. Allowed time can be sliding from a part to another. So sounds a nice one for me.Yupa wrote:So how do we solve this? Here's a suggestion:
