A still very small gallery

Post by Thanatos »

Hello :).

I've finally decided to show the few things I am currently owning in a RS gallery. The gallery is still very small, but they will certainly be some additions :D.

Link is here.

Obviously, don't hesitate to comment, especially if it is to tell about english mistakes I made.

Thanks.

Your gallery has a very romantic and historical name!

Aki saréba
Kawagiri tatéru
Ama-no-kawa,
Kawa ni muki-ité
Kru yo zo ōki!

[When autumn comes,
and the river-mists spread over
the Heavenly Stream,
I turn toward the river;
and the nights of my longing are many!]
Text and translation courtesy of Lafcadio Hearn

(An ancient mythological song, put in the mouth of Tanabata, the heavenly weaver, who fell in love with Hikōboshi, a mortal herdsman. The two were separated by divine edict, but placed in the sky as two stars separated by the Ama-no-kawa (the Milky Way in Western astronomy). Once a year, on the seventh night of the seventh lunar month (July or August in the Western calendar), they are allowed to spend a night together -- hence Tanabata's melancholy at the start of autumn, for it will be many months before that blessed night comes around again.)

Thank you for sharing. You have a good eye for sketches and cels, and if you begin with that, your gallery will always be large in beauty, even if they are few in number.

I do not think that the light of a single scan will damage your art. You should be careful not to crease or scratch the art physically when you are putting it into the scanner or taking it out. But the real damage occurs when it is unnecessarily exposed to light for a long time, or allowed to deteriorate due to poor storage in high-acid containers, or exposure to high humidity or pollution. (Can't tell you how many times I've had sneezing fits when I open a bag containing sketches once owned by a smoker, for instance.)

If you take care of your art by storing it properly, and inspect it regularly to watch for trouble, then a single run through a scanner will not hurt.

Your Vampire Knight sketch is very dramatic. Perhaps for those of us who do not know the story, you could explain the situation briefly. Thank you also for taking the time to match your art to screen captures.

You already have a very lovely collection. I think many of your sketches are striking and very emotional images -- very beautiful! I also like your gallery design. The colors are pretty and a bit soothing, and they all go well together. Good luck in future cel and sketch hunting! :)

Thanks everybody, I'm very glad to see that my collection and the gallery's design please you :).

sensei, the tale you are talking about... I searched a little on the net, and I found it is commemored on a festival today. Well, thanks a lot, I've learned something :). But I'm not sure... this tale doesn't comes from the Kojiki, does it ?

But sorry, my gallery's name is not so historical or glorious. It is the name of a song from the Bleach beat collection, session 4, sung by the seiyu of Byakuya. When I found that it means "The River of the Night Sky", I tought it was a pretty name for a song. Then, when I was searching for a name for my gallery, it popped up in my mind. Yeah, I am very sorry to broke the athmosphere :(.

For the sketchs' scanning, well, without the problem of the light hurting the sketch, I still have to deal with my laziness. But who knows, I'm seriously thinking of making some gif with my sketchs.

About my Vampire Knight sketchs... well, I think the scene is more erotic than dramatic :D. To explain briefly, the friend (his name is Zero) of the girl (her name is Yuuki) is a level D vampire and has to drink blood in order to avoid the fact of becoming mad. So, Yuuki gently offers her neck :). Yeah, I know, said in this way, it sounds very bad.

Well, about the Rei cel, rosesleep, you can say it is this cel that drived me into cels collecting. I missed two of the same cut on YA to finally buy one from a Rubberslug's member :).

Anyways, thanks sensei, tax-chan, teggacat and rosesleep. I really appreciate the comments :).

EDIT: Added the song to the homepage of the gallery. In fact, the quotation at the top of the page is the three first lignes of the song as I found them translated on the net. But because I don't speak a word of japanese, I can't tell at which point this translation is correct.
