Strange first one

Post by Joost »

I was looking at my gallery, almost 10.000 hits ( ok, its not that much, but still a nice figure), and I was wondering what my top 3 would look like.
To be honnest, I'm a little confused :

Nr 1 : http://senseighibli.rubberslug.com/gall ... mID=154119
--> Ok, I love this cel, but its for a rather unknow show, so who is looking? :-)

Nr 2: That was an ugly Azuki-chan cel, did not even know what this was doing in my gallery so I just removed it, ... why! I have so much more in my gallery ! :bawl

Nr3: http://senseighibli.rubberslug.com/gall ... emID=95365
--> Ok, this one is understandable :D

Nr4: http://senseighibli.rubberslug.com/gall ... emID=95462
--> One of my first cels, maybe thats why its so high? Otherwise also a rather unknown show

Nr5: http://senseighibli.rubberslug.com/gall ... mID=183924
--> My number one 8)

Congratulations on your first 10K. With a primo Ghibli collection like yours, I'm sure those numbers will grow quickly over time.

But I've often wondered what determines these "Top 50" counts. Most of my most popular list consists of CCS items that I've had up for more than 8-10 years so there are few surprises there. (Well, I'm still bemused that in one case, where I have the production cel and a test cel in alternative colors, that the test cel has generated more than twice as many hits.) But the top hitters are often very odd ones.

My #1 continues to be a layout of the minor villains Rengokuki and Entei from Inuyasha. I can only guess that it's linked to an IY encyclopedia page of every character in this saga, and as the first of this duo gets only about five minutes screen time before he gets killed, I'd guess my anime gallery has one of very few decent portraits of him.

My #4 is even stranger: a facsimile genga from Mushishi . The last five episodes were initially slated to go straight to DVD, but the show was popular enough that the studio had a sneak preview in movie theatres and sold sets of copy gengas to these audiences. A couple showed up on YHJ, and I got one. Most of the characters I was able to identify, but this one remains unidentified. Maybe other Mushishi fans are trying to figure out who this lady is and what's frightened her so much.

Thanks for sharing your better-chosen top picks. Tastes are funny.

I tend to be alternately amused and confused by what shows up as "most popular" in my gallery. The items that consistently appear as my "top 4" typically remain the same, although they shuffle positions at times. They are all things that have been in my gallery for quite a while, so I'm sure that's part of it.

This Sanzo Genga is currently at number one. Sometimes, it drops down to number 2, but it usually makes its way back to the number one spot eventually. It's one of my earliest Saiyuki acquisitions, and I'm certain that has quite a bit to do with its ranking. But, at the same time, I'm a bit puzzled by how it tends to land at number one or number two. I think it's a beautiful sketch; otherwise, I wouldn't want to own it! :crackup But I've had people (many times) go out of their way to tell me how unattractive and ugly it is. Obviously, it's something that only appeals to me ... so why is it so popular? Maybe people are clicking on it to see just how "ugly" it is or something ... ?? :emb

My all-time favorite cel is currently at number 2. It sometimes makes its way to the number 1 position, but never stays there permanently. I can understand why this one might be popular. It's an opening cel, and there aren't many production cels out there from this sequence. (At least, not that I've seen or found.)

Number 3 and Number 4 are both post-production cels. Number 3 is a repro and 4 is a rilezu. Again, older items ... and they are from fairly well-known shows ... so probably understandable. But it does sometimes make me wonder because they are not actual production cels. So I see them high on the list and tend to wonder: Why? I have production cels that are really nice, too! Visit them and give them some love. :hitting:

Your collection is beautiful!!!
Its weird though, sometimes the least likey item is your most viewed! For me its:

#1 Kirara Settei (http://melodymoon.rubberslug.com/galler ... mID=101026) = WHY OH WHY would this be number one when it's a copy @_@

#2- FB cast settei, #3 IY settei, the TOP 10 are all SETTEI COPIES!!!! And here I go out of my way to collect hard to find anime and people like looking at the settei *scratches head*
Some say that life is like a box of chocolates, I say life is like a box of cake.

Glad to see I'm not alone in the odd rankings :)
