The joys of a downward spiral!

Post by jenn-b »

I have decided that I am tired of hiding certain pieces in my gallery. I was going through it today to see what all is hidden, and I have one piece that has been hidden for literally one decade. My Weib Kreuz OP cel of Omi was added to my gallery in February of 2003.

So it is the first of many cels and sketches that will be unlocked throughout the day. I have one entire series that I will be opening up later today as well. I'll add a few images to the *New* section so you will know where to look.

Aweosme Omi cel!

I have a question, and it's just simply because I don't understand the reasoning, but why did you hide cels in the 1st place? I know a lot of people do it, but I don't really understand why.
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." -Isaiah 1:18

I was asked by the dealer to do so. And I guess I used to be more understanding. Now, I'm of the opinion, that if I have spent money for it, I can do what I damn well please with it!

Exactly. And if this dealer somehow acquired it through illegal means and wants you to hide it because of that...yikes.

Wow that was a really pretty shot of Omi! Quite strange that the dealer would ask that--and I totally agree with you. I wonder if he wouldn't have sold to you if you refused to do so. X|

Nice update. The coloring in the Omi cel is really quite dramatic. And nice gallery design. I only wish I had the patience and talent for doing something like that.

Yeah, I agree with you that it's bad when you're told that you should keep something hidden. I know that a lot of the artwork that we buy come from dubious sources, but I always hated the "do not show" caveat. Not that I'm trying to usurp your thread, but to answer your question BR, in a couple particular cases, I've had to fill and sign out paperwork for certain studios saying that, if I ever choose to display the item, I can't show the artist's signature. When I originally purchased these sketches through a charity auction, I was informed by the convention heads that they originally wanted to stipulate that the items could never be resold, however, the convention legal team had to explain to them that there was no way that would happen. In my particular case, though, the studio was more concerned with possible counterfeits appearing. It's big business in Japan and Yahoo Auctions is rife with them.

Well the specific series that I am going to unlock I was told that I couldn't show online because it might upset another buyer of theirs.

I will use this to reference my other thread on the dealer. Same dealer...yet another issue with them. It implies that my money is not as good as other buyers, so we need to keep it hush-hush that they folded and sold me artwork. I've just been too lazy over the past two years or so to go through and unlock everything. But I will chip away at it!

Interesting: I remember much more of this "I can't let the world at large know that I'm considering selling you this" back in the pre-Rinkya/SMJ era. I wonder now if that wasn't some kind of standard ploy so that you'd be prepared to pay top dollar for something that would sell to Asian bidders for much less on an open auction.

Or maybe there was a kind of exclusivity that jobbers had to maintain to keep supplies coming from their sources? Anyhow, that conduit seems dying if not dead, with SMJ and Mandarake serving as a much more direct route for owners to cash out their stocks without the use of confidential middle-men.

Anyhow, unlock away, [Jenn-b*]! It's nice that older collections are starting to experience a renaissance of sorts after too long a quiet period.

* Gomen: in my old age I can't read yellow on blue as well as I used to back in the previous century.

Hear hear!

I'm finding in my old age I start to care less. A lot less. Like you said, it's my money, I do what I want with it. :D

Wow. That's just ridiculous. And I agree; it implies that you are not as valuable of a customer as the other individual. What a crock. I'd definitely unlock everything you want. Screw 'em - it's yours now!
