Shipping Question cels

Post by kizu »

Something weird happen today. I had Rakuten send me an express mail, was supposed to be delivered today. When I check the tracking it says a notice was left since no one authorized was there to receive it. There were people in the house. After wards two supposedly post office people came (I didn't meet with them I was at work), said my express mail was stolen from the mail cart and they left a number for me to call. I asked my housemates if they had an ID and they did. :-|

Anyway it just seems odd. What should I expect now on this phone call. What are they going to do now? It's cels I'm missing so it's not replaceable to me. I hate this. Thank you and let me know. :(

Wow..... I would offer advice, but I've thankfully never been in a situation quite like yours. O.o

(Off topic, I can stand in your corner on the first bit of it, which is a thorn in my side frequently. I have two postal carriers (one a man, one a woman) who work the route I'm on and despite the VERY SHORT walk to my door, the man will NEVER EVER bring packages to my door. I've watched the truck pull up then pull away and gone out to find a "you weren't here" slip in my mailbox. I've had my door wide open and been watching out the window where I'm totally visible to someone on the street and had him drive away without trying. It ticks me off, because sometimes it's really inconvenient to get to the post office. *grr*)

Thanks for the reply. I called them, they are totally useless and said since it's express mail and insured, I can just ask the seller to file a claim.
*sigh* I'm actually wondering if this is just some sort of ingenious plot by post office folks taking insured packages keeping it for themselves thinking that the recipient won't complain much if they can get their money back somehow... Sorry my mind is really dark at the moment... I'm sure that's not what it is and it was probably stolen by some loitering teen who saw an irresponsible mailman leave their cart in the middle of the walkway... Argh, that didn't sound any better did it?

What's so annoying is that those were nicer cels and they didn't cost me an arm and a leg. These days reasonable cels are hard to find, at least for what catches my eye. Guess I'll put it up my gallery eventually in case somebody does dare put them up in public claiming it as theirs. Beware... Argh I'm so not in a good mood... Life has sucked lately. :redhot

Wow. This seriously sucks, kizu. I haven't ever found myself in quite the same position, either. I've had UPS do stuff like not leave slips (similar to what Drac described), but not where I live currently.

It surprises me sometimes that I don't have more issues with mail delivery where I live, though, since my neighborhood uses central mailbox clusters rather than delivering to each individual house. But usually with anything express, they always come to the door and ring the bell (there's really no choice -- they can't just stop at the mailbox and leave a slip -- they have to leave it at my door :P). I've had them skip my house for package pickups, though, on a number of occasions, and I nearly always send in a scathing complaint each time (and whenever I do, I get a phone call with some lovely BS excuse as to why it happened *sigh*).

If you ever do get a resolution, please post about it. I'm interested to hear how this all works out for you, especially since I sell a lot and may eventually find myself on the seller end of something like this.

I doubt postal employees are scrambling to steal cel packages to pawn, since they'd be totally clueless as to how to get the most out of them, I'm sure. Not to mention, if they did think they were going to get some massive payday, if you post scans of the missing cels, we can all keep an eye out for them ;).

I do have to say, kizu.... If I were in your shoes, I would become a COMPLETE AND TOTAL THORN IN THEIR SIDE. I wouldn't let them get away with just telling me to file a claim for the package, I would tell them it contains one of a kind pieces of art and they I expect them to find it. I'd inform them that it's express mail and I paid a lot for their shipping service to get it to me safely. Insist on being told how they know it was stolen, and how the theft occurred. Get REALLY REALLY nosy and in their business about it.

If you meekly shuffle off and file a claim, that ends anything at all that might be able to be done about it. If you walk in there and demand them to step up to the plate, they won't have a choice. You never know if the package might get suddenly found.... just so they can get rid of you.

Oh, and like zero said..... Post scans of the missing cels. Some of us (okay, maybe just me, but that's one!) do actually keep open eyes and watch for missing cels to suddenly turn up somewhere odd.

I actually live in a pretty safe and -boring- neighborhood. I'm really quite pissed off about it but I have so much going on and was really looking forward to some cel therapy.

I think if I can find a minute I will ask them to open an investigation because the last thing I heard from Rakuten was them asking if the package was stolen in America and it's been a few days since I heard back. I don't really know how good Rakuten is with these things. I paid by credit card and I'm tempted to dispute it but really it's USPS fault.

*sigh* I don't even know how long I should wait for Rakuten and then USPS to action. When I'm thinking of this issue usually like right now at night when I can't do anything about it, I think I will be a thorn by their side and such and such... But then daytime comes around and I'm too busy to do anything personal or too unfocused to tackle this issue. I like my cels don't get me wrong but I"m just in this really dark funk where I might eat up the loss of the cels just to not deal with another "bad" or frustrating experience. I seriously am trying to pick and choose what to deal with so I don't go bonkers. /arg /an

I updated my gallery with the missing cels. I didn't know where to put them so I just put them in my RK meiji section: http://hajimenokizu.rubberslug.com/gall ... 388&Page=1
No update anymore from Rakuten, I emailed them again. I think I'm going to demand a letter from USPS because I think Rakuten doesn't believe me when I said it was stolen. I mean the tracking says no one authorized was there to receive it so I don't blame them. It's not even about the money, just the thought that they probably got thrown in the trash or left outside somewhere to rot (it's been raining hard in Chicago the past few days) makes me sick. It's been a tough year but if I can erase June, I would. I hate June. :bawl

I'm so sad. Reminds me of the time another precious cel went missing due to a beta member never sending it.
This was that cel http://hajimenokizu.rubberslug.com/gall ... mID=341810

Thanks for posting the cels -- at least if anyone here sees them turn up for auction or sale anywhere, we'll know where they belong. Is it possible for you to file the insurance claim with the USPS? My brother recently had a first class package (domestic, insured, with sig. confirmation) containing a $200 cell phone take about a week to show up and when it did, the package was absolutely mangled. I mean it looked like they ran it over with a forklift and then tried to bang out the dents >_<. The whole thing was shrink wrapped and slapped with a big fat "we care" label (I've seen these before when a package is damaged). The phone was actually fine, but wow. He didn't try to file a claim, but he did get USPS to open an investigation a day or so before it miraculously showed up for delivery.

I've never heard of anyone getting a personal visit by postal employees regarding stolen mail, but perhaps your situation is really out of the ordinary for them *shrug*. I've heard all kinds of crazy stories about employees stealing mail just to see how long it takes to get caught, but meh. I hope it works out for you :l .

Zerospace, well at least I know the post office had filed a police report. They didn't tell me about it until after I said I'm having trouble with the seller filing a claim. Not sure if there's anything else to be done.

On the bright side, those cels you sold to me have arrived. They are wonderful. Thank you.

Wow ... a police report. Sheesh. I guess it's all up to them, then? >_< (Glad to know the cels from me made it to you! :))

I am sorry you had to go through all of that.

I am not surprised by the police report though. The USPS may be pretty careless with delivery at times, but it takes a very dim view of any type of mail fraud/theft.

The USPS did the same thing when a dealer from France took my money and never sent the cel. He would sell the same cels to multiple collectors and obviously only one received them. Anyways, I sent the money via mail (I either did an International Postal Money order or just had the letter tracked - can't remember which since it was nearly 10 years ago). The post office filed a report and started an investigation then too. I know the guy was closed down and some of the money was eventually returned to people. He was being investigated by other groups too, including the ICC, so I do not know who was ultimately responsible for ending it all.

I finally got a reply from the seller. Since the package was lost in America, they can't do anything. If the package is sent back to them, they may refund me... Ummm so what's the purpose of insurance? I'm tempted to file a dispute on my cc. :?

O.o interesting. I think I'd file the dispute for sure, because that's half the purpose of insurance (aside from damage) -- it should cover it if it gets lost in another country. I always figured this is why you can't insure first class international with USPS -- because the package can't be tracked overseas, there's really nothing that can be done and the risk of loss is just too great.
