Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
YOWZERS! Many congratulations. It's an arresting image regardless of whether you are an Akiraphile or not.
Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
Thank you, Sensei.
Finding a cel from that scene was something of minor wishlist fulfillment for me.

Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
Went to animenext this weekend and came away with two lovely cels, plus another unexpected gem from ebay.

Wow, Kino, your gallery continues to impress!
Nice new additions, while not familiar with Robot Carnival,
I really like the coloring and general feel of that cel,
great updates!
Thanks For Sharing!

Hi Kino!
This is my very favorite from your most recent round of updates! I've never seen this show but this piece is very arresting. I could be persuaded to watch it, if all the art is so high quality, which I am sure it is!

Congrats on your finds!

Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
Tegga, Frozentime, Jadeduo...thank you so much for the compliments.
Often cited as anime's answer to Disney's Fantasia, Robot Carnival (1987) is a full-length feature film comprised of nine shorts (all revolving around robots) of varying artistic styles by different directors, a few of whom later went on to become major players in the industry (i.e. Katsuhiro Otomo). This cel is from the third short, "Presence", and is arguably the best of the lot. It's haunting, provocative, and artistically sublime. A true gem.

Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
The summer continues with yet another update. I finally got my first Battle Angel Alita, plus a beautiful Kirika from Noir. Thanks for looking!

Beautiful additions! I'm a big fan of both shows. The detail in the sketches from BA/Gunnm is amazing.

Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
I like the moody Kirika from Noir: the background, though unmatching, really compliments the darkened colors of the cel image.
Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
Thanks, Frozentime.
The seller had three sketches for sale on YA Japan, and I couldn't resist buying at least one. Another gallery on Rubberslug, "Dreamland Gallery", has the matching cel to this douga.
btw I'm a big fan of your Battle Angel collection.
Always appreciated, Sensei.
I had actually missed out on this very cel a few months before, but whoever bought it decided to put it up for sale. It was a bit more expensive this time around, but still within my budget.
Coincidentally, both pieces have a sequence number of A8.

Thanks Kino! That's cool that you found the matching cel. I hadn't ever been to the dreamland gallery, so it was fun to check out the cel and find a new gallery from someone with some overlapping tastes.

Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update
Hi Kino!
Great update! I love that Noir piece it is QUITE beautiful and moody! I just want to give her a hug.
The Battle Angel Alita is great too, I particularly love it when they use multiple colored pencils on a sketches. It gives them more depth and flavor. It does help when all you can find of certain series is sketches now!
^_^

Re: Celluloid Central Gallery Update--Wishlist Arrival Asuka
Today's update is super special, as I finally, finally, finally, got my Asuka cel!!!
I've come close a few times before, but either lost the auction or didn't act fast enough.
Thanks to Moop, for posting the seller's website a few weeks ago.
It's a end cel, sequence A29, from episode 22. Enjoy!
