I got a very nice honor today
I was contacted by an editor from Marvel Comic today about the use of an item from my collection. Of course I am more than willing to help them out (name of editor xxxed out)
Still it seems that a lot of people assume my first name is Ryan because of Maria & I's online gallery.
Comment:
Hi, Ryan. My name is XXXXXXXXXX, and I'm a freelance editor/coordinator
for Marvel Comics' trade paperback department.
I'm working on the "Moon Knight Epic Collection: Shadows of the Moon" TPB,
collecting Moench and Sienkiewicz's 1980s Moon Knight run. I'd love to
include Bill Sienkiewicz's 1981 portfolio in the back as a bonus feature,
but Marvel doesn't have any art or film on file for it.
According to your gallery, you own a copy:
http://ryan.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_ ... mID=143176
Do you still own this? Would you be willing to scan all five pieces for
us, so we can print them in the TPB?
I'd like to deliver the scans to my in-house editor by the end of this
week...please let me know if you're up for this! I'd be happy to run your
name in the book's Special Thanks section.
We need 600 dpi scans, saved in .tif format with no compression. We'd
like a half inch of blank space left around all four sides of each image.
And even though the portfolio pages are grayscale, we'd like the scans to
be in color if possible.

Wow, JWR. That's really nifty and congrats on being asked to scan artwork for an important publication.
I'm amazed as to how much RS serves as an important record of artwork from a wide variety of series. Where else can you find so much artwork from so many Western and Japanese series, all in one place?
Now if only we could get an update to RS's search function...

Woh, very nice! That is quite an honor.
I vaguely remember Moon Knight from way back when. I can't recall what issues I bought of it though. That's pretty cool.

Congratulations on the honor! Will you get some consideration for making the scans available? I know you do not own the rights to the art itself, but I'd hope that they'd at least promise you a free copy of the book. (I'm guessing that it will be high-quality graphic format and so the list price could be substantial.)
Ditto CB's comments on RS as a potential resource for people interested in the graphic arts side of this material. I got a number of students to look up in expectation when I said I'd do a unit in my manga/anime course on what the original production artifacts can tell us about the moving picture on the screen.

Basicly I will get a "thankyou" listing in the book which is fine for me. It was very surprising that all their artwork copies got misplacedsensei wrote:Congratulations on the honor! Update:
The book Moon Knight Epic Collection #2 Shadows of the Moon arrived today from Amazon and they were able to use my scans for the portfolio at the end of the book and true to their word I am listed under "Special Thanks" section.
