new here!!
hello everyone!
my name is derek. i live in hamilton, ontario, canada.
i've been into anime for a long time, since the 80s.
i've been collecting cels since i lived in osaka in 2004 and found some treasures in the bins of MANDARAKE!
nothing sets you up for a fall faster in cel collecting than finding all your best gems in a massive dump bin for 300-700 yen. now i get the odd thing on YAJ or ebay.
i only collect RANMA 1/2 and MAISON IKKOKU but it would be my dream to have a nice cel from AKIRA, which is the film that was sort of my gateway into all of this. also i'd like a nice DORAEMON for my kids!
i'm going to japan for a month next month, so i am anxious to get back into it hard. i am hoping i can find some more bargains for my collection!!

A newbie! A newbie!

Welcome to Beta, figital! I hope this gives you some links to new pretties and good advice on how to keep them. I know Rumiko Takahashi series are very popular and so there are a lot of cels available for the two you mention -- but with devoted fans, there will always be competition. Also that there are a surprising number of Akira cels out there, so I'm sure "your cel" will show up for sale, either on auction or from a collector's gallery offer. Patience and good taste are the keys.
But good luck and feel free to participate in the managed chaos here.

Welcome to the board!
I'd be curious to know what kind of Maison Ikkoku artwork has been out there the last three years or so.

Good luck hunting at Mandarake. If for nothing else, those bin cels make awesome gifts for any friends and family members who enjoy cels.
