How often do you...

Post by Echo »

How often do you give a cel gallery or it's owner some feedback? (or an email, feedback is more of a RS term I guess)

I was always curious about this and Hammando's post on frequented galleries has prompted me to ask. I always love to hear what other's have to say about my gallery or my cels, whether from an update or just in general. With most galleries that I often visit I always email or send the owner some sort of note that I enjoy viewing their gallery and collection. Every time I do so, I always get a wonderful response, collectors always love hearing comments about their hard earned addiction. Part of what makes collecting so much fun is the appreciation. :)

Now I don't have a huge collection of gems in my possession, but I am still surprised in how little of feedback I receive. :^^: I only hear from other collectors if it's for a offer or trade.

I was just wondering what you guys do. How often do you contact a collector to simply tell them how much you admire their gallery? And be honest!! RS galleries make it ridiculously easy, just a simple click of a link where as an owner with their own gallery and host there's more work (well, not really), but maybe it's too much for a lazy viewer to do? To search for an email, and maybe sometimes not finding one? Do RS galleries receive more feedbacks than those with their own galleries/hosts? And when I say feedback, I'm not just talking offers/trades-- I'm sure plenty of people here are overloaded with those. :P

Just my little brain at work while I'm bored. :)

I voted for occassionally. I send people feedback if they just opened their rubberslug gallery or if they have cels that I find to be amazing. I myself have never made any requests for the person's cels thru feedback, but I have had people offer to sell cels to me thru the feedback. Although I did comment on someone's cels once and they replied to my comment asking me if I wanted to buy them. :D and of course I did. :P
I love receiving nice comments too. It always cheers me up when I receive one! :vict

I voted occasionally as well. I'm actually pretty bad about leaving feedback, though I look at all the updates listed here at Beta. :?

I guess I feel odd about leaving something like "great update, love the new additions" ... I prefer to say more, but I'm not the best reviewer in the world. ^^;; (Just ask anyone on my various fanfic groups :P )

I usually have to be prompted to leave feedback - I only give someone reverb when they actually tell me to go look at their gallery. (Like if a friend AIM's me and says "Check out my update!")

I always feel weird leaving feedback, I dunno why. :?

I occasionally leave feedback. I'm quite shy, so I tend to be sparse in my comments, unless I know the person. But if a very, very nice update occurs, then I will leave a note of awe. Or, if I spot a mistake, then I'll drop a note.

I do sometimes - when I get all excited.. I have met nice people like that - But I have also made comments when I have wanted something - Like My SSJ3 Goku -

But sometimes I am scared- I made a comment - without any intention of say (is it up for sale) and Got the comment back...

Thankyou for the comments... and don't even think about making an offer - I am sick to death of it - read my website... No cels are for sale..

So I was like.... But I didn't... I wasn't... :(

Most of the shows I collect from are not from very popular. So usually the only time I contact a collector after seeing their cel gallery is:

1. When I see someone that is collecting from the same unusual shows that I do. (This doesn't happen very much)

2. When the cel gallery mentions to let them know if anyone can identify a character/anime or episode number. (I've contacted people a few times a year from this)

3. When I see a friend that updated their cel gallery with something very unusual. (This doesn't happen much anymore)

I'd say in the last two years I must have contacted about 15 different collectors strictly after seing their gallery. Not very many.

Occasionally I'll send a quick note of awe for a cel or collection that's really spectacular, otherwise I figure the owner of the gallery doesn't want to be 'bothered', but I guess hearing your gallery is nice isn't a bother, is it? Maybe I'll start sending praise more often. :) If the collection is too overwhelming (like this one RS gallery where, I swear, all good Presea cels reside) I won't say anything because I'm jealous (I admit it) and the person must know how great their collection is, so my saying it would only feed their ego. Yeah, I know that sounds odd. :? If it's someone I know, or I visited the gallery through a post here on Beta, then I'll always give some feedback for cels I like. :)

I love getting comments so it's not fair that I don't comment on other galleries myself, but I only do it occasionally.

Most of the time I get emails from kids who want to show me their drawings or they're impressed that an old lady likes DBZ. Sometimes people ask me where I get my cels, who "drew" them, how do you do correction layers, did I get my "drawings" from Toriyama... I like being a help in those areas, and I always direct them here to learn more and have fun!

Hmmm..

This got me thinking.. for some odd reason it never occured to me that a lot of people here would visit other beta member's galleries.. and only those galleries (mainly pertaining to the hardcore DBZ members--heck this forum originated as a DBZ forum :D ). Heehee, if a particular member were to post an update in the website section, an email wouldn't be necessary as you could just post your comments.

Nathan, that is such a shame. I've actually run into a lot of collectors like this.. it's as if you can only say something nice when you want something in return... WTF??!! I'm not kissing your butt, I'm just being nice. O_o So sad really.. but nuts on them if they can't take a simple complement.. :P

Momma, that's so cool! :D

Hey Keropi, I'd love to know what you collect! And don't worry, I won't run out and buy out the market on the particular series ^_~ I'm too much of a AMG and SM addict at the moment. Heh, that's enough for me!

Thanks guys for your posts!

<gasp> How crude!! I NEVER do that!!! :crackup Early on in my collecting, I would mostly write people to compliment them and hit them up to sell one or a few of their cels. You bet - Now I like to write people if I see a new gallery I like - or if they're not a member of Beta so I can't compliment them in a post.

Wow...old thread here. 8O

After thinking this over, I realized I haven't given gallery feedback in AGES. I used to give feedback every once in a while, but lately I just haven't had the motivation to do so.

"Hey Doug...those two Kakyuusei cels come from the TV series."

That's something I feel like saying, but I don't.

Generally I just send a kudo of congrats for some new acquisition that I know is special. It depends, though, on how much time I have. If I'm at work and stealing a second to refresh my mind after finishing a stack of exercises, I might just visit and look and then plan to send feedback later and usually forget.

I'm trying to be better about that, but it true that I very rarely receive feedback myself of any sort -- once in a great while when I do an update. Even so, that tends to be a very small group of collectors with similar tastes. Actual "out of the blue" feedback comes maybe 2-3 times a year. (Even some of this is spam.)

This is why the Beta Open House is so important to me. If I totaled up all the feedback I've ever gotten in my gallery's six years of existence, I'll bet the majority of it would still come from the two Open Houses in which I participated.

Feedback...

Post by Jadeduo »

This is an interesting question, usually whenever I am on rubberslug I will check to see who has updated and from what series if it is a series I am familiar with I will pop on over to see what they got ^_^.

Then if they are a rateable gallery I will usually rate their collection presentation etc. I rarely send actual feedback unless it is requested on the main page of the site.

Funny note I usually give perfect tens on everything but presentation. It drives me nuts when someone has 20+ cels in a series and then puts them at 3 a page! Gah what about us poor people who still use dial-up! It can be VERY annoying! Click..... Load..... Load.... Load.... Click..... Load.... Load.... Anywho you all get the picture!

*hugs*
