Opening cels on the new DVD's?
Ok, I know that the original Dragonball opening are the original opening cels, but with funimation creating new openings to DBZ Video's. Are those cels now considered opening cels, too?
What do you think?

They may own rights to DBZ, but they can't create a new opening for it. The cel for the original opening are the only opening cels, If somone had a cel for the eps they took the cels from somone might try to sell it as a "OP cel" and say it is from the US version Op credits, but the only cels that should have a right to be called Opening cels are cel from the original Opening sequence made for the series by the Creator, not just clips from the show and no stop and extremely annoying chanting of " Dragon Dragon Ball - Dragonball Z", thats not a opening, that is just embarrasing to the series.but with funimation creating new openings to DBZ Video's
I have no Idea why they cant just leave the original OP with Song Atleast "Cha-la head Cha-la" HAS a meaning, and serves a purpase to the Series, I mean, haven't they ever hear, "If it isn't boke, Don't fix it."
So, In answer to your question, yes, if someone had a cel from the episode they use for their op, somone would probably pass it as a US OP cel, but I still voted no, because they shoulden't be called OP cels, because they were made for the purpose of production in the show, not the OP credits.
So acually, in answer to your question,it is a maybe, It depends on who you aks, If you ask a watcher of the True un-Butchered version of DBZ, They would say no, if you asked somone who watched FUNi stuff (that sounded German) they would probaly say yes.

My two cents...
Only the original opening credits cels can be called OP cels...the opening cels for the credits of the original japanese version.
However, I don't see anything wrong with ...if you have one of those cels used by funi for the "american" credits version, with qualifying your cel as saying...as used in the american version of the credits, but not in the original...as long as it is clear they aren't actually official OP cels.

Reboman is right. The American Opening and Ending are just cuts of the original so the cels should stay the same. Maybe there is an opening that I haven't seen on funi that y'all are talking about. If so, then TK is right.

I didn't vote on this one for a very simple reason I have a cel that was used it the opening of the US version, but all my japanese VCD's do not show the opening sequencs to the show but one so I don't know for sure. In otherwords, I have no clue, (but a few special cels) what cels are Opening cels and what are not. Ok, if you watch the US opening on the DVD for say Saiyan Saga there is a scene where Goku is sliding on his head on the ice, lets see if I can bring up the cel. http://www.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_i ... emID=11642
But I have no clue if it is in the Opening of the Japanese Version, or in the Opening for the Movie "The World's Strongest" Which is where the cel comes from. So, I was wondering if it is or not? I think that when they made the older DVD's they changed the beginning sequence to add more scenes from the show instead of just clouds or something. But I am not sure. Help.

They don't really own the rights though ^^; All they really have is the right to distribute DBZ in the USAJuunana_Gou wrote: They may own rights to DBZ
That said... no, the "opening" that Funimation created is most definately not considered to be true opening credits cels. All they did was splice a bunch of scenes together from different scenes in the movies and tv series.

Thats possible - I haven't watched any of the American intros for new episosdes. I can't stand the dub, and avoid it at all cost.rebomancels wrote:Actually, the American intros I believe are actually just cut versions of the Japanese intros, at least for the Buu Saga.
But the Saiyan through Frieza saga "openings" are not OP cels, that much I know for certain.

No. I think an OP cel is ONLY considered an OP cel if it's from the original Japanese version. It doesn't matter how you look at it. The OP cel was used in the Opening of the original Japanese anime, who cares what crap Funimation churns out. They just got a bunch of clips and stuck it to some crappy rock the dragon mix. They left in very few of the original clips.
I personally LOVE Chala Head Chala and We Got Power! Both songs are great with their original openings. Why, oh why did Funimation think it was a good idea to change it? It loses it's effect when they do. It was VERY much unnecessary.
Speaking of OP cels....
I LOVE that OP cel from the Buu Saga at Mangaya. The one where Gohan is in the middle with Piccolo, Vegeta, Goten and Trunks on either side of him.

Eyecatches would be the same thing, XoXoX. Are there even eyecatches on the Funimation versions?

Nopers Bleeding Orange, I managed to snag mine off of Taro the one time I caught their update before anyone had purchased it...I like mine better then the one on Mangaya actually, because Veggie and Piccolo are a bit bigger images.
And Saiyanwolf...the answer to your question is yes
Funimation has restored the eyecatch scenes in their dvds...all through the world tourny and buu saga stuff, and now in the cell saga stuff...
and from what I've seen (although not willingly) they remain in the horrid dub pioneer versions too.
