haibane renmei-anyone else watching?

Post by Tabbykitty »

I picked this one up mainly because of the beautiful art, and was pleasantly surprised. I understand it's a fairly short series (only 13 episodes I think), but I would recommend it for those who enjoy drama and a bit of mystery :)

Story recap: there's a town nearly completely sealed off from the outside world. Within it are creatures called Haibane, which have wings and halos resembling angels. Each Haibane is hatched from a cocoon, and has no memory of its (previous?) life. Haibane Renmei follows a newly hatched Haibane called Rakka, as she tries to understand this world, and remember her previous life.

So far only Vol 1 is out, but I am eager to see more.

I -love- Haibane Renmei. I think it's one of the best things to come out in recent memory. (Uh, don't let me overhype it for you.)

It is 13 episodes. My DVD vol 2 came in the mail about a week and a half ago. I've been so far lucky with the mini shitajiki that come with them. Thanks to Rinkya, I'll be getting in the original ABe doujinshi soon as well. :) Last AX I cosplayed as Reki, we had a little group. It was a lot of fun.

I watched volume two the other day, and I am so hooked on this show - I absolutely can not wait for the remaining discs to come out. I know a lot of people are hesitant to pick this up because they think it is going to be like NieA_7, but its not at all.

I saw both volumes but it was way too slow moving for me.. I dont like really slow animes like Hack Sign and Haibane.. I really enjoyed Lain and Noir but its only cuz it had some spice to the beginning like death!!! MUHAHAHAHA!!.. lol!! :joke

I saw the first episode when I received a dvd with my monthly "Wizard Guide to Comic Books"-subscription.
It looks beautiful !!! ... But sooooo sloooooooow.... I didn't work out for me.
But I'll keep an eye on this thread because I know you can't judge a series by it's first 20 minutes.

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

I began watching haibane-renmei recently, because the art drew me to it. turns out it has a very nice score as well. I think this anime might be more appealing to females than males (as a generalization of course). it is flowy and thoughtful, as opposed to heavy with action, gore, humor, and/or busty characters. a pretty and earthy anime that I'm eager to finish watching!

btw I did not enjoy lain, but I'm glad I gave this a chance.

It's definitely one of the most intelligent and lovely stories I've ever seen.

I don't get the comparison to .Hack, though. Nothing like it whatsoever. ?? or did I completely misread that? :wow:

Oh, ok... went back and re-read the above. Yep, no question that it's not an action show. It's well worth watching in its entirety though.

Hey... NieA_7 is GREAT! I don't know what people have against that series. :l

I love Haibane Renmei, and I finished it sometime in the midst of 2004. It's a great anime, and it's so beautiful. :D Well, that's my opinion, anyways.
