Elfstalker,

Can you provide any more info about Yoko Kanno? I am really entranced by her use of choir.

I wish I knew more! I only know some of her works, such as Escaflowne, Arjuna, Lodoss, and Cowboy Bebop.

I do know that she likes to blend many types of music from all over the world together in her works. When I search for her music, I read little snippets here and there about her. I think I'm gonna do some research on her in the near future. :)

Can I have HER job? Well, I kinda do, writing music for my game, but I'd love to get more work in the anime/game music field later on in my career.

Wow! Thanks for all the links! Too bad she's not coming to any of the cons I'm going to, I'd LOVE to get her autograph.

Well, another thread I'm horribly late posting to ... but, if I had been a member back when this started, I just know I would have posted ... really!

Anyhow, just had to put in my two cents, even if it's late. I loved the series. I had to rip through each dvd as soon as I managed to get it ... and waiting a month (or more) for a new dvd to come out was sheer torture! As soon as a new one came out, I had to head to the store and get it --- usually on my lunch hour --- and then, I had to leave work early so I could watch it. Yes ... I'm a pathetic, pathetic anime ho.

But ... I really didn't like the movie. I can't really explain why, but I thought the movie was sad and a bit depressing.

seen the whole series and i love it. watched the whole thing in japanese with the english subtitles. i did watch what little of the dub version that fox showed, long ago. subbed version is better because the dub leaves out parts and the japanese seiyuu's are excellant.

Yes yes yes. Watch, if you haven't. Your anime education has been seriously lacking if you have not seen the mild-mannered Dilandau (especially the TV version).

This was one of the first shows I watched and, as so many others have mentioned, I was blown away by the music. The main theme is done (in some places) in a Gregorian chant style, very gradually overlaid with orchestration.

And there's a piece called 'Flying Dragon' or something to that effect that is absolutely equal to anything John Williams ever did :-)

The characters are wonderfully developed, it's a full-fledged story. The ONLY thing I don't like about it is the dang noses in the TV character designs. (Lord. NOBODY has a nose like that!)

I've seen both the series and the movie. I loved them both for what they were. The TV series was wonderful, I found my self falling for first Amano, then Allen, then Van right along with Hitome, she is one of my favorite female characters. The ending didn't bother me in the least, I thought "well some day they'll meet again" and left it at that. :)

The movie was very different and darker, but very satisfying just the same. :)

My friend ordered the boxset from DDD a while back and they screwed up, so they sent him a replacement one. But then the first arrived as well, so he had two...giving one to me...which now sits on the desk unopened and viewed. Don't know why I can't bring myself to watch it...but just, don't have the interest for some reason...which is pretty silly because I don't know many if any people who didn't love it.

Maybe someday...

I'm such a romantic that I was so angry at the way the series ended. I still like the series a lot, I just can't watch the last 2 minutes. Hated the movie. I guess because I was expecting one thing and was smacked with another.

I couldn't agree more! I hated the ending ... I was so mad that I had watched the whole series and become so attached to these characters, and, then ... it ended like that ... :puzzled I just felt cheated ... bah!

And, the movie ... I think, because I had seen the series first and loved it so much ... well, I think that had a lot to do with why I hated the movie. I thought the movie artwork was really nice, although I have to admit I'm more partial to the TV-style art (except for those noses ... so pointy!). To me, the TV show had some dark aspects in it ... but, the movie was just so dark and heavy with angst ... Well, it was overwhelming and just felt hopeless.

Still, to be fair, I was probably, albeit unintentionally, comparing the movie with the television show. And, that's not something you can really do. They are both totally different, and, really, seem like stand-alone projects (at least to me ...). I don't think you'll be wasting your time by watching it, though, kira. It's not that the movie wasn't good ... I mean, I thought it was very good, and, if I had seen it before the series ... or if I hadn't enjoyed the series so much, I probably would have liked the movie much, much better. (If this makes any sense ... insomnia makes me ramble ... a lot ... :? 8O )
