I just came back from watching Strafe again. See what this thread is doing to me. Actually, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be called Strafe since that's actually episode 2. But Verbrechen is long and hard to type. Shellie, this is your season two and Gluhen would then become season three. :)

AO, yeah! Rewatch that entire last episode and think of Omi and Ken as a couple. It works. I can even take you to other episodes to follow that logic. I think episode 20 comes to mind immediately. I could be completely wrong here. But hey, it's just anime so it's supposed to be fun to imagine along with it.

Forgot to mention that I found out the hard way about the dramatic cds. I bought one a few years ago. Listened to it once. Just another reason I need to learn Japanese.

And Omi's shorts. They're not unbelievable! I have a friend I used to work with in Cincinnati who would wear shorts all year long. This includes when it was snowing. I couldn't believe it. I thought he was crazy. He said his wife yells at him all the time for doing it but he's just always hot. So this keeps him cooler. :cucu

His name wouldn't be Peter Jackson by any chance? :D

I read an interesting theory on Omi's shorts once.
It seems that his birthday is on february 29th, and that happens once every four years. So basically that would make him...what... 5 years old?
That would explain the shorts... :D

I didn't see yaoi goin' on there at all. I'm leaning for a serious male bonding moment, nothing more. :) Really. But that's my perspective. I usually don't "see" yaoi in a moment until a guy blushes or plants a big smooch on the other guys lips! Erin, how did you see the Aragorn/Boromir death scene thing (assuming, of course, that you saw LOTR! :))? Or Frodo and Sam? Or Merry and Pippin? There were lots of wonderful "male bonding moments" in LOTR and I know lots of people would say they were more than that, but that's not how I see 'em. But that's just me! :)

Oh, and definitely follow that link the Uende posted... it is So funny!

Oh, my gosh ... Uende!! That was funny!! I bookmarked that site ... I'm so going back there whenever I need a little cheering up. :crackup

No worries, Shellie! You won't get any WK Gluhen spoilage from this chick. I think you will like it. It is really different than the series, but I thought it was good --- too short (and I have certain other grumbles about it), but good, over-all. Plus, need I mention (again) --- Aya ... long hair ... :drool :drool :drool

And, as everyone can probably guess, Aya is my fave. I love him, from his continual pissy mood right down to that horrible, rummage-sale sweater he insists on wearing all the time. Yohji runs an extremely close second for me. I just love his attitude, and the way he seems to approach life (animated life, but ... yah know ...). Omi is OK. I agree, he has had the most tortured life out of all four, but I really wish the show had made him seem a bit stronger than it did. And Ken ... well, what can I say about Ken-Ken ... other than that I just don't like him.

*ducks flying objects*

Personally, I've never really seen the shonen-ai so many other see in the show. I could be being particularly dense, and I'm certainly outnumbered, judging from the sheer volume of shonen-ai/yaoi fanfics out there. But, if I had seen it ... yeah, I totally agree, duotrouble: Omi and Ken would be a pair. They just seem to "go" together, personality-wise.

As for spoilers ... maybe we should say they are OK in this thread, since we are presuming most folks posting here have seen at least the first show. But, just in case someone who hasn't seen it yet stumbles onto here ... I'm going to note the inclusion of potential spoilers in the bit below ...

**SPOILERS AHEAD***

There are a few scenes in the anime that I really loved. The one with Omi and Ouka in the cemetery, that Duotrouble mentioned, is one. That scene was just so emotional ...for him to find a family member like that, and, then, to just lose her that way. Man ... you could just feel his pain. And, I loved the way the rest of the guys reacted to it, too ... plus, the rain falling down. Just good, heaping helpings of anime angst all 'round.

I also liked the scene where Nagi resurrects Tot --- even though I thought Tot was an incredibly irritating character .. and what the heck is up with that umbrella, anyhow? But, it was really sweet, seeing two such "damaged" (for lack of a better word) people finding a "soul mate" (again, for lack of a better word). You get the feeling that Nagi hasn't cared about anything in a long time, if ever ... and it's so sad to think of someone being that jaded at such a young age. So, to find he can care for Tot that way ... well, I thought it was heart-warming --- in a twisted sort of way ... but, hey, this is Weiss, after all!

And, the scene where Aya breaks off to go after Takatori and ends up fighting Crawford and Farf, instead. I love the part, at the beginning, where he catches Brad's fist ... heh, heh, heh. What a great scene! Too bad he went on to get his clock cleaned ... sigh. Well, in Aya's defense, it would be darn hard to fight a pregoc.

Hmmm ... since this is already in the "spoilers" section of my post ... I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the Neu/Asuka thing? The same person, or not? I lean toward thinking not, even though Yohji really wants it to be true. But, what do you guys think?

I wasn't sure about that one either...but when you think of it: "Neu" means "New" so it could be true.

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

I have another question... Hows come the same four WK cels keep rotating FOREVER on YJ?? :D (That's kindof a rhetorical question! ;)) I'm sure hte one will never sell since it's Ken WITH the lovely helmet! :D (And I really liked Ken, by the way.)

SPOILERS FROM THE TV SERIES IN THIS POST!

Good point! But I lean towards not. When they show flashbacks, you can see subtle differences. I think it was more of Yohji's tortured mind that caused him to believe as strongly as he did.

Shellie, I read all 4 books of LOTR and saw all 3 movies. I never once felt a yaoi moment. That was certainly kinsman bonding. Awesome scenes! I discussed what you said with 30frames tonight. She agrees with me. Her point (something you haven't learned about me) is that I'm a good study of human nature and notice subtle qualities everywhere. That being said . . . I could be totally wrong with the pairing. But in my mind, I like them together because they both need someone. In the beginning I figured they were just really close friends because they were closest in age to each other. But after seeing blushes from both in various episodes, this is the conclusion I've drawn. You do not have to see things my way. :)

Nagi and Tot -- what horrible lives they had too. Apparently on your application for assassin, you are required to have had a lot of tragedies in your life. Nagi being an outcast having to live on his own since he was really little. Tot being raped by her father and then killing him because of it. (At least I think that's what I remember reading. It has been a while.) I thought it was really sweet how Nagi went to save Tot. And one of my favorite moments was Tot standing up among the rumble. Creepy!

Only having friends who agree with you on everything would be BORING! :friends: I'll have to go back and watch for them blushing. Didn't catch anything like that while I was watching.

WHOA! I can see that reading the story gives you waaaaay more info than they dole out in the rushed tv series! I had no idea of Tot or Nagi's backgrounds! That sure paints a broader picture for me. Does Nagi die there in the rubble? I hope not. Even though Tot was hands-down the most annoying anime character I've run across, I was very touched by Nagi's devotion to her -- that whole last scene with them was great.

And we don't have to do spoiler warnings here, do we, since this thread was started to discuss what we thought of the episodes? Well I guess it was me who begged you not to talk about Gluhen yet, huh! :emb And actually I may want to amend that and have you tell me all about it, Erin, since you will have the background materials necessary to understand and explain what is going on! :) I think I know quite a bit about it, just from reading the great comments in some people's galleries with their Gluhen cels. It's kind of fun to watch a show only knowing bits and pieces, so when you see someone's cel flash by you say, "OHHHHHH, now I understand!"

Very cool info, duotrouble, on Nagi and Tot's backgrounds! I don't think I ever knew that --- or, if I did, I forgot about it. I've read quite a bit of background info, as well as anything of the rest of the Weiss universe I could find translated ... but it's been a while! Now that you mention it, though, that does explain why they would be drawn to each other.

On Asuka and Neu ... Uende, I never thought about it that way, but that does make sense. So, I guess it's still possible. I still prefer to think it isn't her, though. I agree with DT ... I think Yohji just wanted it to be her so badly that he was willing to overlook the differences, especially when they looked so much alike and the personality differences were subtle in many regards. The scene in the restaurant comes to mind --- where he tries to sit at the table Asuka always loved and Neu wants one on the completly opposite (dark) side of the restaurant, and the way Neu didn't want the hat that Asuka had always wanted ... To me, that was a huge sign they were different people. But, Yohji seemed willing to overlook those differences --- probably partly because he just wanted Asuka back so badly ... but, also, partly because, maybe it didn't seem odd to him that she would be different that way. I mean, he isn't the same person he was however many years ago (five?) when Asuka got killed ---he's joined Weiss, become Balinese, and seeks out the shadows and dark more now, too --- in real life and in his soul. So, it might seem natural to him that "Asuka" would, too. Hmmm ... I'm not sure if this is making any sense at all ... :puzzled But, the main reason I really like to think Neu and Asuka were two different people is the way Neu meets her end. I mean, in a way, it's poetic --- kind of like Yohji laying Asuka to rest once and for all ... and, not knowing what happened afterward, in the drama CDs, that would be a good and easy thing to believe --- that he was getting closure. But, considering what happened afterward, and how killing Neu affected him, I just really want to believe she wasn't Asuka. I mean, poor Yotan has suffered enough. But ... in the end, I supppose it doesn't matter if they were two different people. I mean, to Yohji they were the same ... and that's what made him suffer, in the end. Again --- hope this makes sense ... :puzzled

And ... a Gluhen question ... has anyone found a scanlation of the Side B Manga on the internet anywhere? I would love to read it!!

Hey guys- just dropping in again after being away for a while, and I see a thread about one of my favorite shows! Eeeeeeee!

I love Weiss so much. It's so bad, though, in so many ways, that no one else I've shown it to seems to love it as much. *sighs* I feel all alone. *coughs*

In brief- I *love* the KenxOmi relationship. O_o I've got an entire story line for those two worked out in my head, over the course of the show. I'm not fond of any other pairings in WK, but that one's adorable and there seems to be a lot of subtext between them.

The NagixTot storyline is also one of my favorite parts- it's so sweet, and the cherry blossom scene is so pretty. O_o I like to think that Nagi sees Tot as an unspoiled innocent with a chance at a normal life. I never really found her annoying- she wasn't on screen long enough to annoy me.

And ye gods, Ken is dumb. DUMB. Argh. ^^;

Welcome to the fold, Weyrlady! Now, you know you're absolutely not alone ... there are a lot of us WK lovers out there ... or ... out here ... hmmm ... :puzzled

I agree ... Ken is dumb as a post. I try to keep an open mind about him, since he is one of the kitties ... but ... well, yeah, I'm just not at all fond of him.

I had forgotten all about that cherry blossom scene! That one was really amazing, too. I loved the way Nagi raised his arm and then the cherry blossoms just swirled all around them, like snow. Wow --- what an incredibly sweet and romantic scene. Just makes me wish, even more, the show had been longer so that all these different issues could have been explored. I know they were, to some extent, in the cd dramas, etc ... but, I would have liked to see more of it animated --- um, but perhaps by the animators who did the OAV ... :)

Reading through and posting on this thread has really made me want to go back and watch the show again ... hee, hee. More Weiss ... now that can't ever be a bad thing, can it? What am I saying?? Of course not!! /no1

Hey all you veteran WKers... you haven't answered this newbies question yet: Is Nagi dead or alive at the end?? (Or am I being as dumb as Ken with that question?? :) And, HEY, I liked Ken! :))
