GROWL!! morons!! (Customer Service Horror Stories)

Post by Baakay »

Ok. It REALLY takes some doing to get me to call someone other than myself a moron, but today the staff of the local Office Depot gets my vote.

WHY leave someone alone in charge of the copy and print department who CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO FREAKING PRINT!!??!! :kaioken

Here's the deal. I spent way too extreme amounts of time earlier this weekend trying to get, and remove miscellaneous junk from, screen caps so that I can have something close to a matching background for several of my cels. I have eight .jpgs in total. Having a printer that is neither 1) a laser printer nor 2) capable of handling 11 x 17 paper, I bop down to Office Depot, which has both.

I hand the girl the disc, explain that there are eight .jpgs on it and I need one 11 x 17 laser print of each. She takes the disc, lays it down on top of the cabinet next to her and proceeds to spend fifteen minutes (FIFTEEN!!) finding 25 sheets of a particular type of paper for the NEXT person in line, who had come in after me.

So I'm a little miffed to start out with, but who knew Granny was going to be so picky about exactly the right paper.

She then goes over to the computer and asks no fewer than three times what size I want the printout to be. I tell her, three times. She frowns at the machine and says "how did you save these? a Word document or something?" "No, they're .jpgs." (Desire to say "hey, you want to pull up Photoshop for me? I can print them."... is overcome by desire to remain a nice, polite customer).

She then prints an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper with a slice out of the middle of one of the backgrounds and says "is that the whole picture?" "Not even close," I respond, beginning to lose the desire to be polite and patient.

I wait -- I kid you not -- another TWENTY minutes, at which time she comes up to be and says "Um, when do you need these by?" "Now," I respond. "Well I called my manager because I keep getting errors." "Ok.." She goes back to the machine and stares stupidly at it for another fifteen minutes while talking to her manager on the phone. Lots of back-and-forthing between the machine and the printer. She THEN comes over to me (I am not making this up) with one sheet of 8 1/2 x 14 and one sheet of 11 x 17 paper and says "which size did you want?"

I sighed loudly enough to attract the attention of at least four other customer service people in the store, all of whom asked if they could help with something. I explained that I was waiting for a printout that apparently was being difficult. Did any of them offer to help their frustrated, stupid colleague? no.

Finally after another ten minutes she said "um, if you'd like to come back tomorrow between 9 and 5..." "I'm AT WORK! then! That's why I came here during SUNDAY!" (you stupid bovine!@!) "Just give me back my disc. AND the disc case, please."

I took the rest of the stuff I had picked up to the counter where I was greeted with the usual "Did you find everything...?" "NO. I am not a happy camper. How hard can it be to make one print from a disc?"

Now... what are we bet that she either had 1) the wrong printer selected; 2) the wrong TRAY selected; or 3) was trying to print the pictures from within Word and couldn't figure out how to make them go landscape instead of portrait??!!

:tongue :advisory: :badass

Man! I know that on the grand scale of bad things happening this doesn't even register as a bad thing, but what kind of customer service is that anyway??!! :tongue

Grump!!!

So... Anyone else have a gem they'd love to share, so that I know I'm not the only lucky soul in the world to be blessed by the Moron Squad?

I am not sure that this is a great story or not but here it is....

So we took flight from Durham to Dallas and Dallas to SF on Aug 5th..... But since the bad weather, we stocked in the airplane at dallas for 3 hours /sob /sob

Then a bad thing happened to us again today at dallas!
There was a wedding of one of our friends last nite in CA so we decided not to sleep to go to SFO from the wedding place last nite since the flight was at 6am.....

So we slept a couple hours at SFO and we got flight to Dallas. Then we missed flight to Durham at noon today!!! X| X| X| X|

So, we are still in Dallas since this noon....... :l :l :l

We are sooooooooooo tired and now we know that dallas hates us.... /sob

So, a point is

1st idiot: Airport ppl who kept us to wait for nothing.

2nd idot: me X|

Hey whaddayaknow, I have one too:

One of the other station managers needs to stay overnight the next day in Kwajalein, he emails me all the reasons, etc. I email him back all the info I'm going to need, and he faxes me all the copies, etc.
I do all the running around (literally) begging for signatures and an exception to policy (policy states this must be done at least two weeks in advance), all the while still covering my job duties. Finally get it all done, hand it in, and I'm given the thumbs up. It's the end of the day.
I book rooms and pass along info back to the manager.
The next day, I come to work and am told they are not allowed to come in. 8O X| The manager was born in Bangkok and therefore needs a security background check. Even though he's a citizen of the Marshall Islands. The rest of his family are fine, they were born in the Marshalls.
So, I run to a computer and send off a quick message about this, and they were on the plane waiting to go. They had cancel, get off the plane, pull all their luggage, and I had to cancel their rooms.
The plane leaves their station, is on it's way to us, and I'm then told, weeelll, since he's an employee of Continental and they do background checks, if he can send us a copy of his Continental badge, he'd be okay to come in. And then asks me if they are still coming in today! X|
"NO! You said they couldn't come here. We had them get off the plane."
"Well, if you get a copy of his badge, they can come in on Monday. I'll just change the dates on the paperwork so you don't have to do all that again." (damned straight you will! )
*sigh*
So, yeah, there's my most recent run-in with the Moron Patrol (tm).

Oh, and as a side note, when I went to make reservations again for rooms, the lady double checked to make sure they were really coming in this time, and I wasn't going to just cancell on her. :x

:friends: Baakay, you are not alone! :dgrin

I don't do well on 2-3 hours of sleep :P and for some unknown reason that's all I got last night. When I'm tired I'm grumpy... when I'm stressed I eat :P

Anyway... I dashed up to Kinko's later on and got some prints. Gonna dash back again tomorrow because I don't like the size... but when you have a single specific background that you REALLY want, it's worth pfutzing around with.

funnily enough, the person at Kinko's had no trouble at all printing out my backgrounds and was even interested in finding out what they were :-)

edited for spelling. I gotta learn to hit this button over here vvvvv

That poor person at O.D. was probably a newbie. At the QuickPrint where I work, we would have opened up your jpegs, saved as cmyk so you'd get outstanding color, and printed them on heavy stock for about 2 bucks each.

Geh, heh, heh. You don't want to get me started on Office Despot and those of similar ilk. X|

I guess I'm lucky that in this backwoods city in a backwater state there exists a print shop where I can do digital color prints myself! :D When their self-serve color printer went down I had to go to Office Max(imum frustration). I really wanted to go behind the counter and do the copies myself (would have been MUCH faster) but no dice. :P So I spent something like an hour and a half getting about two dozen color copies. Argh!

On the other hand the local shop (that I love) did a superb job of rendering that FMA piece I did into large (14x20) full color prints on cardstock. They are always really helpful and actually interested in the anime artwork I do. :o

Ahhh - customer service morons.. I swear, if you haven't run into any yet, just give it time - you will. My favorite CS idiots were the folks at Adelphia Cable... this was a couple of years ago.

I had just graduated from college and told my soon to be ex-roomies if they didn't want to continue to pay for the cable internet, I'd cancel the account (it was in my name). So, I did that - I returned the cable modem (at the time it was a rental) to their office in State College, PA (I went to Penn State). They said I'd get the final bill in the mail and I gave them my new address to send it to. So, I got the bill - but there were a couple of problems with it... 1st they charged me for crap I didn't have (this was an ongoing problem with them) - and second, it was NOT my last bill according to the bill itself.

So, I picked up the phone... and after 3 hours of being transferred from office to office and department to department, I ended up on the phone with the same dumb CS girl I started with. She passed me onto yet another department (and another person I'd already spoken with about an hour earlier). This guy finally got me a supervisor/manager and needless to say - after 3.5 hours on the phone with those morons... I was ready to kill someone. After all, I just wanted to give them the last bit of money I owed them and be done with it!!! :P Sheeeesh.

LOL. I work in Canandaigua, New York. But if you want to email me your images, I can print them and mail the prints back to you. Seriously.
