Funny Little Nosferatu Short....And The Cat With Hands

Post by Lynxa »

So I've been a little obsessed with stop-action animation lately, mainly spurred by my deep, deep disappointment in Corpse Bride and it's apalling lack of plot :x

While I was looking at the cast list for Criminal Minds (great show by the way) I came across the name of a stop-action film short by one of the actors. So, being obsessed, I managed to find it online. :D

It's actually pretty darned funny and cute. And since a lot of you guys have as weird or weirder senses of humor as me I thought I'd post a link :P

Okay, since Claude and his pancakes are getting no love *sniffle* :hurt: Here's another weird stop action short by up-and-coming Brit Robert Morgan. It is FREAKING CREEPY (and nearly impossible to find in the U.S. :P )

The Cat With Hands

*shudder* I kinda watch my Mom's two cats out of the corner of my eye now....

Huh, sorry to hear about your disappointment in The Corpse Bride. I really enjoyed that movie.
Maybe going back to Burton's roots might shed a little light on why you found the plot to be so ambiguous. :?

If your looking for disturbing stop-motion animation, then I highly recommend The Bros. Quay who had a heavy influence on the videos from the band Tool. One other personal favorite of mine is an older animated short entitled Ah Pook Is Here, which is directed by Philip Hunt and narrated by the late William S. Burroughs. I guarantee this one will not only leave you a little creeped out, but also strangely enlightened.

And Bevhippy already gave us link to The Cat With Hands back in February. Love this short - a perfect Bros. Grimm tale. :evilblk

LOL, I own the Bros. Quay short anthology DVD (they also did the video to Sledgehammer, believe it or not ) and I'm getting Svankmajer's 2 DVD set for Christmas (my parents can't keep anything secret :P ). His adaptation of Alice in Wonderland is one of the most disturbingly creepy I've ever seen.

I've only recently found Robert Morgan, but I'm going to try to get my British friends to find me some more of his work (particularly "Separation" - it's won 15 awards but I can't find it ANYWHERE).

For some reason your link to "Burton's roots" didn't work, but believe me I'm a huge fan of almost everything else he's ever done (including Frankenwienie). I just feel that he focused more on technique than plot and leaned too heavily on slapstick and Disney-esque humor rather than original cleverness (if you want to check out my Yahoo review be my guest :D ) I thought it was an incredibly beautiful movie that lacked substance.

Your description of Ah Pook Is Here intrigues me. I can't wait to watch it when I have access to another computer with working speakers :rollin

I am glad you find this funny. How much did it cost?

1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

That page is a little quirky, to say the least. It's actually a torrent file and a brief summary to one of his earliest works - Vincent. I'm sure you've already seen it, being a Burton fan, but your referral to his "slapstick and Disney-esque humor" does come from these days.

And trust me, if your already into the Quays and Svankmajer, your gonna like Ah Pook is Here. I remember first seeing it at a Spike and Mike's animation festival about 6 years ago. The audience, which had been in hysterics all night, was dead silent throughout this last short. It was a very eerie moment. :o
