So Sad... :(

Post by transmet »

I just got the news last night that Joe Barbera has slipped into a coma, and that more than likely he won't make to the end of the year. :l

I'm so honored that I got to meet and spend a little time with this legend of the animation industry, as well as attend what will end up being his last birthday party. So many talented people were there, but even at 95 yrs. old Joe still stole the spotlight. He'd start telling a great story about the good old days over at MGM, all the while working his way over to the most beautiful woman in the room, and just as he was about to deliver the finale he'd make his move and have her sitting in his lap by the time it was all said and done - such a character. :P

He went to work at the studio at least twice a week (usually more) up until this month. Just a great, great guy with an amazing inner drive who always left a piece of himself in the hearts of everyone he met. They just don't make 'em like him anymore. Image

I don't have anything to say to that.

Awww man.

So many greats have left us or are leaving us this year. *sigh*

This is indeed very sad news.

Thanks for telling me your gender, Baakay. You are a "he".

Couldn't agree more. It's sad when the legends fade away. As Kay said, we've lost many great people this year. Joe will be sorely missed but his impact on animation will live for all time. Couldn't think of a better memorial than that. Wish I could've met him too, you're very lucky Lance.

i too had the honor of meeting joe barbara when i was little. one fond memory: my parents had made plans for lunch, but instead we spent the entire time in his office looking at this huge book with all the old cartoon characters in it... jabber jaw, smurfs, the flintstones... he kept asking, "who's that? who's that? and who's this??" until i got the names right. we got so carried away that we totally missed lunch. lol... he was definitely an amazing and kind person. he will always be "mr. barbera" to me. rip. :l
