Paypal has really yanked my chain now..

Post by Maiko »

I swear, I have had an account with Paypal for almost 8 years now, and for the past year or so, they have found all sorts of ways to really infuriate me.

There was, of course, the time where they thought I stole my own account and locked it down- which was really frustrating and embarassing, seeing as I had several people I needed to make timely payments to, and then when they tried to reopen my account, they did something wrong and it no longer would let me send payments, and I spent over a week on the phone with these idiots who just kept saying, "Drrr...I don't get it...why is it doing this?..." and it never got resolved. I just had to create another stupid account.

Anyway, that's another story, but I should have learned from that that things could only get worse from there.

Since I use Paypal to pay for the majority of my cels, I figured it might be a good idea to open a Paypal Buyer Credit account.

Wrong. Wrong.

So let's see...I haven't had the stupid account for very long, and I already have a due Date of Feb 14. No problem. I tried logging in to make the payment before I left on vacation. It wouldn't let me- it said I couldn't make payments online within the first 30 days of my account being opened. So I decided I would try again while on vacation from my friend's computer. It gives me the same message.

So I spend 2 hours getting the run-around from Paypal's crappy customer service phone center, and finally reach someone who says that I have only 2 options- make a phone payment through their automated system, or mail in the payment.

So here is the catch:

If I use the phone service, it is a $15 fee to make a minimum payment of only $10!!!!!!

If I just mail it in, well, of course it won't be received and processed in enough time, so I'll get charged a late fee and probably have my APR go up on the stupid account and then they'll probably report it to the credit bureaus and the credit score I have worked so hard to keep up, will be damaged.

I told the supervisor it was pretty lousy of Paypal to give someone a due date for a payment, and then pretty much leave them with one option only to make a timely payment, and that option costs $15. And I was basically told, "Oh well, so sad, too bad, that's Paypal's policy".

Demanding to speak to higher-ups and/or getting that ridiculous fee overturned got me nowhere. So the only thing I could do was make the stupid telephone payment.

I am still so fuming mad- the way Paypal does and runs things is just infuriating me even more. The more I think about it, the angrier I get. So I think that this payday, I'm just going to pay the balance on my Paypal Buyer Credit in full and then have them shut the account down. I just have this bad feeling that things could get even worse from here.

I don't know if anyone else has one of these accounts- and for all I know, they have had no problems. But if anyone here has been considering opening one of those accounts and haven't already, I hope this is enough of a warning, because it's just not worth it >_<x

Sorry to hear that Maiko. I dont have a Paypal Buyer Credit account but I do have a normal account and have heard horror stories of people who would get there accounts locked up for months not being able to touch the money in there paypal account. I also use paypal for all my purchases online (to lazy to go down to the post office and fill those overseas money orders (also hate the fact that it could either get lost, or having to wait additional time for a cel/sketch..) So for the time I am sticking with paypal as there is not any other choices available sadly. I personally have had my account locked up once (was a real pain) but since then its been pretty smooth sailing.. (for now..)

I've had my buyers credit for a while now... never had a problem with it either.... well, only problem i have is is i charge to it when I shouldn't. =S That seriously sucks that you've had such troubles with paypal. The thing i seriously hate about paypal is the fees when you recieve a payment... at least since I have a verfied account.

I had the Paypal Buyers credit for a year...all sorts of problems with that account.

Get this...I would pay in each balance FULL each month, and my APR still increased. It affected my credit rating, which was excellent, until I had that stupid card. It dropped me almost 80 points.

I get furious, I call them up. Forget it...the worst possible customer service ever. I told her I was going to cancel my account, she didn't care. I said ok, let's do it. She didn't think I was serious until she asked me the third time with, "are you sure?" No lady, I'm doing this for my health *sarcasm*.

So I cancel my account, and she gets pissy...so I hung up on her. LOL. Ever since, my credit rating has gone back up b/c of that worthless stupid card not being used anymore. I don't recommend it at all...how the hell does someone with great credit get a 7.9% APR get brought all the way up to 29% with paying on time and the full amount every month????

Anyway...curse to Paypal. Unfortunately that's what I'm stuck with paying people with for now...but I refuse to deal with any sort of 'credit card' with them ever again.

You have totally just reinforced my decision to cancel my account. I haven't even had it for 30 days, and if I'm already this displeased, I don't even want to imagine what else might come up that might cause problems and damage my credit rating.

Sure, closing an account can knock you down a few points, but I might be saving myself from losing even more by trying to keep that account.

Thanks everyone!

And thank you Maiko for starting this thread.

Now I know better than to even consider starting one of those accounts.
